I’m stressing out, because it’s going to be finals this upcoming week and I have a C- (70.4 points) in my Physics Honors class, and I’m 4 points away from getting a D, and I’ve never gotten a D before at all. I’ve always had at least a C in one class every year because of one class being really hard, but this year, Physics is super hard for me and I’m really trying, but I don’t know whether I want to switch to a different class starting second semester if that’s better. I’m a senior by the way, and the first semester is ending this week, so I haven’t started second semester yet. I have a 4.04 GPA unweighted and weighted for 10-12, and I’m taking 8 classes, with 6 A’s and only 1 B in my Calculus class. My high school allows us to pass with a D, but I’m worried I won’t be accepted into a CSU just because of one D. My Physics teacher doesn’t let us retake our tests, and never gives out extra credit, and the only thing left is this major finals test which will probably cost me a whole letter grade, and I’m not confident I’ll pass… I’m not sure if this class is an academic or non-academic class according to colleges or required for college admissions, but according to my high schools description it states “course meets the University of California “D” Requirement”, but by the time I graduate I’ll have about 295 credits, but 225 is only required, so this class is considered an extra elective, but I’m not sure if I do get a D in my first semester, then CSUs will not accept me. I’m just really confused about getting into college, and I’m not sure how I can retake the class to get a higher grade in college or somewhere else. My other options are community colleges, and art colleges, but art colleges are too expensive for me at the moment. So please help!!
STUDY!
When you receive your acceptance package, it will spell out the terms for your conditional admission. Most CSUs want you to complete the a-g courses as laid out in your application and maintain a GPA floor. If this course is being used to meet the Lab Science requirement, you need to pass or you will be rescinded. If you have met the requirement with other courses, and don’t tank you GPA too bad, you will probably be OK.
I’d call the schools you’ve applied to and ask…
Good luck.
I’m a senior as well, and I went through basically the same thing so I’ve had like hundreds of talks with my counselor regarding the whole D situation.
Basically, if it’s a required A-G course that you NEED credits to fulfill, you’re screwed. But I’m pretty sure physics is not a required A-G course and it’s just in the elective category, so you should be fine. I had a D on my transcript and just got accepted into my first CSU, so I think you’ll be okay too.
