Will I Get Accepted to Ohio State University?

I have a lower ACT score of a 24. My weighted GPA is a 4.39 and unweighted is a 4.0. I’m number 4/256 students in my class. I am involved in NHS, student government, and played varsity soccer for four years. I also play club soccer in the spring. I work at a retirement community as a waitress for the elderly who live in apartments. Something interesting about me is I was a State winner of the Ohio American legion Americanism and government test. I got an all expense paid trip to Washington D.C. A longer with 17 other winners. Only one of my parents attended college for a couple years but did not earn a degree. I will be the first to pursue a degree in my family. My family’s income is also around 20,000 dollars a year. What are my chances of getting into OSU? I applied for early action.

I have a friend that got in with a 25 but I don’t know anything else about her grades or ECs

@erinivey13 Applying EA will help your chances! Your ACT score is on the lower end of admitted students, although. However, they do review applications holistically and the rest of your application would definitely get you into the school. I definitely think that you have a shot at getting in! But as always, don’t get your hopes up too high because the decision often depends on the year and the rest of the applicant pool

@keanne20 @soyunchico thanks for the feedback! I’m just so nervous. I’ve seen that other people have got acceptence letters but I still haven’t received anything yet so I know I probably won’t get in. Ohio state has always been my dream school.

If OSU follows the guidelines it publishes, I think you’ll get in. Your class rank and GPA are awesome. Test scores are just one factor.

@erinivey13 stay positive! I think your chances are pretty good. Have you taken AP classes? Good grades and rigorous classes hold more weight than ACT. Good luck! My son is waiting to hear as well…

@Buckikell Yes I have taken over 7 AP classes but they also count for dual enrollment at a community college my highschool is connected with. So I get automatically get college credit if I get a C or higher in the course, but if I wanted to then I could also take the AP test and get credit for that too. But I have not taken any of the AP tests, just the courses themselves but still received the credit. But many people have already gotten their acceptance and I’m still waiting for mine. I’m just really worried.

I got in with an act score of 25 the first wave, but I had a lot of volunteer work, letters of recommendations, and a 4.6 gpa with full time college college courses. With the rest of your application, you should have a good chance. Best of luck!!

@Hannicollege thank you! And do you know when Ohio state sends their acceptence letters? I know they’ve been sending them out, but do they send them out like every Friday? That’s what I heard they do but I’m not sure. And when did you send in your application to Ohio state?

@erinivey13 don’t worry about not having received an acceptance letter yet–this is totally normal! OSU releases decisions in random “waves”. I was accepted a few weeks back, but when my brother applied, he was not accepted until December 15th! and he later received merit scholarship. so don’t worry about the date you decision comes!

@keanne20 well I sent in my application like the day before the early action deadline. I was wondering if that had anything to do with it because they had so many applications before mine was sent.

@erinivey13 yes, if you sent it in the day before that’s why it’s taking a little longer. I wouldn’t stress or worry about it, you should have your decision within the next 2 weeks

@keanne20 Omg I’m seriously so nervous!! OSU has always been my dream school.

I would say everything on your resume is fantastic, minus the lower ACT score – but you should still have a fair shot at getting in! From what I’ve heard, OSU is extremely considerate of GPAs and you have a great one. I know people at my school with 25s who don’t have as high of a GPA or NHS/other extra activities. Best of luck!! :slight_smile:

@smoochum thank you for all of the feedback! I’m wishing for the best!

@erinivey13 I sent in my app on Oct. 27th! I received my acceptance letter on a Wednesday, so I think they send them out randomly. Best of luck!

@Hannicollege what is your major?

@erinivey13 were you in the first batch of acceptances on the Friday before Thanksgiving though? Or did they just notify you by email?

@artsyg I haven’t been accepted yet

@erinivey13 Nursing!
