probably not, what other answer were you expecting, washu will have a sub 20%acceptance rate this year.

I think your extra curriculars and rank is good but...SAT I score and the 520 for SAT II might not look too good. sigh Makes me cryy my SAT scores aren't too good T^T

Are you kidding me?! He's a first-generation URM. Plus his rank is excellent and his ACT score makes up for poor SAT scores. You have a really good chances. I'd say very high chance of acceptance. Good luck!

Given the factors pointed out by Shwincity117, not sure I'd agree with "very high," but might peg it at "better than average" chance of acceptance.

avarage chance; I don't really think much better than that, but not worse either
The ACT is okay, but hardly strong by Wash U standards.
The SAT1 is weak; the subject tests are very strong, okay, and very weak.
I don't think the ECs are overwhelming.
The demographic probably helps a lot. A non-URM from, say, NY metro area would be out of the running.

are you kidding? he's a first generation URM salutorian (is that right) from compton california with decent test scores and leadership ECs, he's a shoo in.

How about a 2150, 3.85 Native American from Minnesota college prep school? My ECs are quite good as well....I dunno, I'm just looking for some hope here, I'm not trying to fish for compliments.....just very anxious!

even better !

prolly. considering you're a first Generation Mexican-American. so you'll have a better chance than if you weren't. :P

I'd say you have a below average shot if you don't interview/show a lot of interest. I wonder how much the URM will factor in though.

edit.... deleted

For those of you saying the SAT score will hurt him, that's completely false. WUSTL takes whichever score is better (SAT or ACT), and looks only at that. Also, WUSTL looks at the SAT using the old 1600 scale and completely disregards the essay portion (they also disregard the ACT essay (the one out of 12 that's not part of the 36)), along with superscoring both the SAT and ACT.

Being from Compton and being a URM will definitely help you out. I'd say you have a good shot.

srunni - Does that mean that WUSTL will only look at the math and english portions of the ACT? Because those are the equivalent sections to the SAT math and reading sections.

Uw gpa: 3.76

No, they will also look at the reading and science portions of the ACT. They will disregard the SAT's writing (i.e., the most recently added 800 points), as well as the optional writing section on the ACT.

The gist of the matter is that they feel the grading of an essay is subjective, and thus they don't hold stock in the score you are awarded on the essay portion of the SAT/ACT. They prefer to assess your writing ability themselves, from the Common App essay.

However, you should remember that getting a 750/800 or higher on the SAT writing will allow you to test out of Writing I if you are in the School of Engineering (there are other ways to do this as well, such as using one of the AP English exams (don't remember which) or taking a placement test). Note that this is not available to students in the College of Arts & Sciences (the majority of students).

Another reason that some schools don't use the SAT and ACT writing sections is that they are relatively new and there isn't enough data yet that correlates the scores with success in college classes. I've been told that more schools will be using these in another couple of years.

bump............

str8 outta compton!! tell em where you from...and As i leave believe i'm stompin', but when i come back, boy, i'm comin' straight outta compton. seriously though represent your forefathers with attitude
