Will I Get Accepted?

Hey, I'm a rising senior, and I was wondering what my chances were to get into a good college. I want to get into Princeton, but I'd settle for UGA.
GPA: 4.00 (That's the highest you can have at ny school.)
Class Rank: 96th Percentile
SAT Scores: 590 CR (57 on PSAT), 670 Math (76 on PSAT), 580 (670 on PSAT). 1260/1840 SAT (133/200 PSAT). I've only taken the SAT once, and I was sick. I'm sure I'll do better my second time.
Extra-curriculars: Varsity Cross-Country, Varsity Track & Field, Wind Ensemble (Top 40/180 musicians at my school), Marching Band (3 years leadership including Drumline Captain), Beta Club, National Honors Society, National French Honors Society, Science Club, Model United Nations, Yearbook Staff, Science Olympiad, Fellowship of Christian Students, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student Counsel, District Honor Band, Winterfest Honor Band.
Honors Classes: 10 (out of 10 offered).
AP Classes: 7 (out of 7 offered) Also, I've gotten college credit for each AP class I've taken.
Other information: I'm technically Hispanic by definition (I'm registered as such on my school information). I'm also super involved at my church, going 2+ times a week and volunteering with children ministry. I also head a recycling committee at my school, and I participate in 30+ hours/year of other community service oppurtunities. What are my chances?

Strengths: GPA, rank (bonus), rigor of coursework, transcript (I assume)
Weaknesses: SAT score

Extra-curricular activities I’m indifferent to: just about all of them, but only because you didn’t provide descriptions for most of them. Sure, you’re a member of these organizations and teams, but what have you actually done?

I see diligence. Great.

Comments:
It will be difficult to score above 700 for each section of the SAT (not that you must, but it would be a good idea if you want to apply to Princeton). From 590 to 700 in a few months is not impossible but not likely if you don’t prepare properly. There’s always the ACT if you want a different path.
You have all of these extra-curricular activities. Good. Pick and choose which ones will make the cut on your application. I don’t recommend putting all of them, just the ones you feel represent you in the best way.

I’m not taking into account your ethnicity as I give you this opinion.

Princeton:
Your transcript is good, but your SAT score might be a red flag. At this point, not likely, unless your essays and recommendations are absolutely stellar. Even then, admission is not guaranteed.

University of Georgia:
I don’t know much about this school, but it should be more accepting of your SAT score. A “likely” to “possible” school for you.

Princeton: pretty much no chance. I don’t mean to be mean but that is probably the hardest school in the country to get in to.
Georgia: YES, im pretty sure its a safety for you, especially if you are instate.

You seem to have two extreme college choices. Princeton is too hard for you and you could do a lot better than Georgia. Try expanding your search a little.

@stewta4: That is incorrect. Harvard and Stanford are more selective. :-)

@classic912: I agree with stewta4. I hope these are not the only 2 schools you will apply to! Search for some schools that will fit you the best.

@violistchan Harvard and Stanford are equally selective =] they dont call it HYPS for nothing hahah

@violistchan will you chance me? I really like the way your present your opinions.(this is complete seriousness not sarcasm. sometimes with typing its hard to tell haha)

Oh dear, your post is quite lengthy. I’ll do my best. :-)

Thanks, guys! Regarding my SAT scores, I really can do much better. My scores are mediocre because it was a poor testing day. I took the PSAT on a normal day, and I did really well. I scored in the 96 percentile and I even got a scholarship. But, it couldn’t hurt to do extra prep? Any suggestions? :)

Princeton- No, ur sat scores are too low. You should try to aim for 2300+. As for UGA, I think u can get in. Good luck!

@classic912: Get the big ol’ fat blue book from the College Board and practice, practice, practice!
The best way to prepare for the SAT is to know the test like the back of your hand. For example, what types of questions, the test format (hint: it never changes), and building up your vocabulary by reading a lot every day (notice I didn’t say “cram vocab words into your overstretched brain”).

You have the whole summer to prepare for the SAT. Right now it is the only thing holding you back, but it will keep you from being admitted to Princeton. Look through the various SAT prep posts on this website- they can be great tools. Buy the recommended books and actually do the work. Make a schedule and start right away. Look over every practice test you take and make sure you understand every problem, until you are sure that you will get a 2400 if you re-take the test.

Chance back?
