Will I get accepted?

Thank you very much for taking the time to check my stats out. I will be happy to chance you as well if you review my list and give me any advice. I am looking for honest, insightful criticism and suggestions about my chances for getting in to the following schools:

Stanford, Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Columbia, Williams, Amherst, Rice, Dartmouth, Pomona, Duke, U of Chicago, Swarthmore, Georgetown, Bowdoin, and Claremont McKenna.

Sex: Male
Ethnicity: White
Location: Texas (born in Kansas)

Academics:
SAT: 2280 (740 CR, 800 Math, 740 Writing, essay-10)
SAT Subjects: 750 Chemistry, 790 U.S. History, 740 Math IIC
ACT Composite: 34 (35-35-35-31, essay-10)
Class Rank: 30/492
UW GPA about 3.8

I have taken the hardest courseload offered at my high school. All advanced classes including 5 AP classes (w/scores): Human Geography (4), World History (5), English Lang & Comp (5), Chemistry (4), U.S. History (5). In case it matters, this makes me an AP Scholar with Distinction. Next year I am signed up for 7 AP classes: US Gov't, Microeconomics, Comparative Gov't, Euro History, Spanish Language, English Lit & Comp, and Statistics.

Extracurriculars:
Entering 7th year of Boy Scouts. Have accumulated numerous service hours and leadership experience, recently attained the rank of Eagle Scout.
Entering 4th year of Debate Team. Have won multiple awards, qualified twice for the state tournament, and am serving as president of a team of about 60 students next year.
Entering 4th year of Choir. Have also won multiple awards in singing. Have sung in the Texas All-State Mixed Choir (state's top choir, very competitive).
Entering 2nd year of National Honor Society, member.
Entering 2nd year of Spanish National Honor Society, looking for a prospective leadership position, perhaps Vice President.
Entering 3rd year of Spanish Club. Rather cushy activity, just shows that I'm actively pursuing a foreign language.

Other:
I worked with another debater to try to change state academic policy with regard to participation rules for debate. The result was that the situation would be "monitored," basically a failure but still shows initiative.
I have gone on several vacations to foreign countries (Canada, Mexico, U.K.) and become "cultured" over the summer. Additionally, I have gone to several debate and choir summer camps.
Also, received notification that I will be a National Merit Commended Scholar.
I just recently started volunteering at my local Teen Court and so far have about 25 hours invested...will continue over the summer.
Recs will likely be very good, I have a great relationship with my U.S. History teacher and she likes me because I did so well in the class.
My goal is to pursue some social science like PolSci, Economics, or Philosophy with a pre-law intent but nothing set in stone.

I'd say that Duke, Rice, and Claremont McKenna are the safest schools on that list for you.

The rest are all reaches. That's just how it is. You could get an Ivy, conceivably. But I don't really see any of them being particuarly enticed by your resume. And Stanford out of state isn't going to happen.

UChicago, Pomona, Gtown, and Bowdoin are all going to be application based. And international relations at Georgetown is incredibly competitive.

I'm a tiny bit more optomistic...I like your chances. Your scores are great and so are your ECs. I think you've got a decent shot at the schools you listed, but since they're all very competitive it's impossible to know for sure.

I'd say UChicago and Bowdoin are going to be safer for you than Duke or Rice (just based on percentages) but also I think you've got a shot at ivies. Narrow down your list a bit, and find a safety (just in case). Good luck!!

I've got a safety at my state's flagship...they have to accept all in the top 10% who apply and I'd be pretty happy there :)

ses, I keep hearing OOS Stanford is hard? Is this true?

Now for your chances. You have well balanced SATs over 2250 which is a plus. Your SAT II's again are strong but not exceptional, still a plus. You could send the ACT, but I doubt it would make a huge deal. What did you get on your PSATs, if you did well enough you will be a semi? Also, your ECs are pretty good, not exceptional but strong. Your class rank is only a little worrisome. Does your school rank based on UW or Weighted? Because if you are taking the hardest courseload while maintianing 3.8 UW, I would expect a class rank in the top 3% not top 6%, but again it's a minute detail. Basically the theme of your application is strong, but not exceptional applicant. I expect you to get into your matches and safeties and to get into a few of your Low Reaches. With luck you will get into one of your "Reaches". As for schools in particular:

Stanford-Reach
Harvard-Reach
Princeton-Reach
Yale-Reach
Columbia-Low Reach
Williams-Match
Amherst-Match
Rice-Match
Dartmouth-Low Reach
Pomona-Match
Duke-High Match
U of Chicago-High Match
Swarthmore-Match
Georgetown-Match
Bowdoin-Safety
Claremont McKenna-Low Match

Chance Me at (a little correction, I'm applying Stanford SCEA instead of MIT EA):

Can't hurt to apply. I think you have a chance anywhere.

yeah OOS Stanford is like impossible, don't apply early there man I'll need all the help I can get. Anyway I like your chances at a lower Ivy, you may sneak into one of the best schools, I mean your creditionals really don't have a glaring weakness. Good luck man.

Wow, I never realized Stanford was so Californian-heavy. It's 44%/56% in-state/out-of-state. Never would've thought that. Someone I went to middle school with went there, but that was for golf...

I thought that the high percentage was based on:
A) California is the most populated state in the union
B) More California kids know about and are interested in Stanford, thus more apply, thus the pool is larger, thus generally more are accepted.

True a bit?

howaboutabump

perhapsanotherbump

for the 95% of elite schools on your list:

decent test scores. nothing special. in fact, that 740 on math subject test simply is bad cause it translates to a 68% percentile www.collegeboard.com/prod_downloads/about/news_info/cbsenior/yr2005/16_subj_test_percentile_ranks_0506.pdf

terrible rank. this one kills you

decent ECs. nothing special---there are tons of eagle scouts who ALSO have more leadership than a debate president and all state choir (the three things that stand out in your ECs). remember that competition is fierce among the schools you listed

overall, reject by HYPS. in at half of the rest
