Will I Get Auto-Rejected for Senior Grades?

Right now I have a 4.0 and pretty good stats. I signed up for 7 AP classes senior year which was probably one of the worst decisions of my life. I might end up with 4 As, 2 Bs and a C. Will this destroy my chances considering everything else is good?

DEFINITELY avoid getting a C, it might be a deciding factor, otherwise you still have a chance with 3 B’s.

ahhh this is going to be pretty difficult. so a C is going to screw me over for sure?

um, you’re taking 7 aps! cornell might cut you a bit of slack, considering that there are probably people at cornell who got Cs in high school who weren’t even taking half as many APs as you

what are your stats? if your sat is like a 2200 and your subject test scores are like 750+, i’d say you have a good chance to get accepted to cornell, depending on which major you choose of course.

cornell really likes high gpas, so a 4.0 (or close to it) will be highly valued

So you are applying after you finish your senior year?

lollll

a C won’t affect your chances WHATSOEVER

a D and F will DRAW attention

trust me

A C will affect your chances - mostly because your GPA will plummet and that is probably the first thing on top of your transcript.

Work harder in your classes if you’re really worried about grades. Instead of playing for an hour on the computer, go study. You know, the whole dead.

I’m still confused as to how senior year grades can matter for applying. If you were accepted, a C won’t get your acceptance rescinded. If you are applying after senior year, then the C will affect your chances. Yes, you had a hard schedule, but so does pretty much everyone else that gets in. Your GPA is not looking great with 2 B’s and a C. Most Cornell students get As in their APs. However, given the rest of your transcript is excellent, and the B’s and C’s aren’t in a field you are interested in studying, you still have a decent chance. Score well on the SATs and write solid essays.

If he/she made it into Cornell ED, and your GPA was 4.0 when you got accepted, then make sure it doesn’t drop by a full point… Maybe be safe and make sure it doesn’t drop by .5 points - or even .2 points.

jumpshooter, are you a junior or senior? Have you already been admitted? I don’t think there is such thing as “auto-reject”, but if you have been admitted early, most schools tell you what is required to avoid getting your admission rescinded. It might be individual grades, or a semester GPA. I have not heard of it being an overall GPA, but if it were, it would take a lot for one semester grade in one class to affect a cumulative GPA. I only know this from looking at it in the other direction. There is very little that can be done to change your cumulative GPA as a senior.

In no way will a C affect you. There is no such thing as an auto - reject. Like if you have a poor GPA or poor test scores the admissions officers will not automatically dispose of your application. Cornell does consider other things on your application, more then other ivies in fact. So don’t worry about it.

No, I haven’t been accepted yet. This was more of a “how important are first semester senior grades for RD applicants thread.” I haven’t gotten a B yet in high school and it looks like I might end up getting 2 Bs and a C this semester.

trust you, NOTTT. you really have no clue what you’re saying

AND this is in response to "lollll

a C won’t affect your chances WHATSOEVER

a D and F will DRAW attention

trust me "
