I’m a North Carolina resident, but I plan to attend college in New Jersey or Pennsylvania. I have a 3.0 GPA(unweighted) and 3.3(weighted). I am graduating high school a year early due to my family planning a major move after this school year. I got a 27 on my ACT and will be taking it again to hopefully get a 28 or 29. Part of the reason my GPA is so low is because my father passed away at the end of my freshman year and it took me quite a while to get over it. Do you think I have a chance anywhere? I’m terrified I’ll apply to a bunch of schools and not get in anywhere. I plan on applying to TCNJ early decision, Rider University, Drexel, New Jersey City University, Kean University, Seton Hall University, Monmouth, Felician University, College Of Saint Elizabeth, and Saint Peter’s University. I know its a lot of schools but I really need to get in somewhere. Do you guys think I have a chance anywhere? And does being out of state help my chances of acceptance? I’m honestly really nervous about it. Just to let you guys know, TCNJ, Rider, and Drexel are my top choices. Thanks so much for reading!
I’d also like to add that I have been on speech and debate since freshman year and have several awards for that.
I plan to major in communications of that helps
I don’t understand why you don’t finish your last year of high school where ever you are moving to.
That being said, I think that you have a good list and will get in to several of the schools on your list. You have safeties, matches, and mild reaches on your list and should do well.
Have you run the NPC on the schools on your list to verify that you are likely to be able to afford them? Is your family moving to either New Jersey or Pennsylvania? If so, then you should check whether finishing your last year of high school there plus your parents working there for a year would make you in-state and thereby make some of the schools on your list more affordable.
The only one that I know about is Seton Hall and you should be able to get into there pretty easy with that combo of ACT and grades.
@DadTwoGirls My family is relocating to Louisiana because of my mom’s job. And the main reason I don’t want to move with my family is because I really don’t like the city they’re moving to. The weather and the people we’d be living with make me miserable. And while I am willing to endure certain things for the sake of higher education, the move is beyond my level of tolerance. As far as cost goes, I have run the NPC’s and am willing to take on the cost of the schools I’m applying to. I really appreciate your response, thank you so much.
