So, I am thinking of transferring to Chicago from UMN-TC. Is it hard to get a transfer admission? I think I should have a decent chance. As revolting as I find the posting of personal statistics, I think its kind of necessary here.
Male, ND
Mixed- Caucasian/Persian (even though the census says they are both caucasian)
GPA: 3.9 UW (12 APs- 4-5s), rank is 29/265
SAT: 780 M 800 V 800 W
Honors and ECs: boring list of lots of stuff plus captain of two things, president of some stuff, special olympics volunteer, tutor, National Merit Finalist, Presidential Scholar Nominee, Academic All State etc.

I'll have a 4.0 first sem. of college, I'm pretty sure I can write a killer essay, and I interview well, but my class rank kicks my ass. Do I have a shot at transfer admission?

-edit for number of APs

Well, your stats are pretty similar to what I had and I was admitted EA. I dont know how many transfer slots they have, but Iw ould definately give it a shot. I think that they would see the U of M as a pretty good school to be transferring from (in terms of state schools, it is very reputable...especially when it comes to research) and I think it gives you a good shot at the "I want to be in a more challenging and nourishing environmnet" type of argument.

P.S. Whate are you doing at the U? I was accepted to IT Honors but obviously I will be attending chicago.

1) I don't want to contemplate chances, seeing how I'm applying now for transfer and I'm sure if I looked at it I'd feel waaaay less confident about my chances there.

2) That said, your stats are higher and 'better' than mine (Presidential Scholar nominee, National Merit Finalist, etc.), and you would assumably show a lot of interest. I was waitlisted, and I didn't even show all that much interest.

3) Your class rank is low, but you're talking high school and you're now applying college-to-college. If you're applying next year (which I assume you are, since the deadline for transfer this year is April 1-- a little hard to put together at this point!), your college career is going to carry a lot more weight than your high school career, and if your 4.0 is true and you hold up your GPA and get good professor recommendations, I'd say you have an excellent shot.
