Will I get in?/College Recommendations?

Hi I was wondering if you think I’d get in to SJSU for computer science?
Im in state but not local. I have a 3.5 GPA and a 1060 SAT although I retook it so hopefully I did better.
Also if you could recommend any other colleges that’d be great!

Assuming 3.5 is your GPA recalculated the UC/CSU method (10th-11th a-g courses, up to 8 +1 points for UC/CSU-listed honors courses), those stats give a 3860 eligibility index (3.5 * 800 + 1060). For frosh entering fall 2017, the admission threshold for CS was 4500, and the admission threshold for the similar software engineering major was 3900. So SJSU CS would be a high reach, while SJSU SE would be a low reach.

SJSU admits by Eligibilty index and major. SJSU has a modified EI for Engineering/CS majors.
Last years threshold was an EI of 4500. Based on posted stats, CS is a Reach. You might want to consider Software Engineering with an EI threshold of 3900.

Modified EI= (CSU GPA x800) + [(SAT Mathx3) + EBRW]/2

Here are EI thresholds from last year

Other than the top/impacted CSU’s: SJSU/SDSU/CSULB/SLO/CPP and CSU Fullerton, you should have a decent chance at the rest. East Bay is an option due to location and very good hiring history.

San Francisco State and Sonoma State are other options as well, similar to what Gumbymom said.

OP, if you really want to go to SJSU for other reasons and you like math, I highly recommend to look into the ACM program (Applied and Computational Mathematics) as an alternative. It’s basically Math + CS, and the EI is 2900 iirc. I still think you should apply to CS as a first choice because college admissions seem random, but try to go to the best school for you where you got into CS directly.

Best wishes =)
