Okay so I have a really low GPA. I have a 2.7 GPA. Im so scared that I will get a rejection letter. Im majoring in FMM not design..so they can't see the actually potential that I have. I know I'm smart and it sucks that they only look at my GPA. Do you think I will get in? Be honest..

ive heard that they look for 3.0 or higher (i think its on their website) but i know the essay is also really important. i think if you really demonstrate your value and set yourself apart theres a chance, since ive seen a few people online who’ve been accepted with less than a 3.0 (not for this year, but thats because most acceptances havent gone out)

i just got accepted for FMM as a transfer student and i have a 3.3/3.4 gpa give or take

@luxlux I applied to FMM during my senior year in high school with a 2.5 GPA and got rejected. I went to a commnity college and boosted my GPA to a 3.5 (still waiting for a decision). I know of one person who had a 2.7 and got rejected, took like 3 classes at their local CC and brought their GPA up and got accepted to FIT. Not saying that you will get rejected because your essay was probably kickass, if you are rejected just take a few summer classes that’s similiar to SUNY’s GE classes at your local community college and apply for spring.

@luxlux I’m kinda in the same boat as you. In HS I started off very strong, but stress and life events took their toll and I graduated with the sane gpa. That was 8 years ago and since them I’ve joined the military, hopefully they will still look favorably at my application. One thing I do recall is them saying that every complete application is reviewed on a case by case basis, even though they generally prefer students to have above a 3.0. I spoke with admissions when I went to the open house in October and one of them told me they would possibly look positively upon my service and take into consideration that my grades were close to a decade old, however when I told him I was applying for day classes instead of nights he kind of became less confident about my chances. However he did tell me if I was dead set on FIT I could register as a nondegree (no application/admissions hassle neccesary), credit student and reapply the following semester, which could increase my chances if I did well and made and impression on at least one professor would likely speak positively on my behalf.

So I encourage you to stay positive and know there are alternatives to get still get your education if FIT is your must have school.

@luxlux unfortunately, I just found out I didn’t get in. Hopefully, they will look favorably upon you instead. It really sucks because I think about the life choices I made just so I could go there and it didn’t pay off. I’m debating now if I should take nondegree courses.

I would say a GPA of 2.7 could get you in the door only if your essay was strong. There are always special circumstances and ways around things at a school like FIT since they aren’t so GPA/SAT based. Everyone’s essay is different, but if you provided a good answer as to why you chose FMM as well as your academic goals, I think you should be fine. If you also showed proficiency in mathematics compared to other subjects, that will also help, since FMM is more of a “number” profession than others you can pursue at FIT. Good luck!

@artsyfartsy96 I think you’re right, I’ve seen on tumblr people said they had as low as a 2.4 and got in, though the major was not included.
