For those of you who are familiar with the econ major, this question is for you:

I am a transfer student who just finished my first semester. I am intended econ. I took Statistics 21, Econ 100b, and Math 16B and got a C+, B-, and a B. That puts me at a 2.666667 gpa (I believe). I needed a B- average in these courses which is a 2.7 gpa (I believe) to be admitted into the major for next semester.

Do you think they will let me into the major.

At CalSo the adviser told us for transfer students, we must get a B- average in the prerequisite classes we are taking our first semester to get admitted into the major next semester.

It says on the Berkeley Economics Department website:
“The average GPA in prerequisite courses for students admitted to the major in recent years has been a 3.4. The economics major is impacted and to be considered for admission students should have a minimum of a 3.0 in the prerequisite courses.”

So you need at least 3.0, but realistically, do you need 3.4 to get admitted into the major?

The 3.0 that you guys are referring to is for all the prerequisite courses. I have straight As in all the prerequisite courses for the econ major that I took at my CC (i.e. Econ 1, Calc 1 etc…). I am sure that the grades that I got this semester didn’t knock me from a 4.0 to below a 3.0

My question is specifically In regards to my classes at Cal. The adviser said we must get a B- average in the remaining prerequisite courses and one theory course that I needed to take this semester (those classes are listed above). I fell short by less than .1 GPA points. I just wanted to know how strict they were on that.
