University of Washington is my top school that I will be applying to this fall to start in the 20-21 school year. My question is… how good are my chances of getting in?
I have a 33 on the ACT, 1410 on SAT (not planning on submitting), 700 Math II, 630 Chemistry (I don’t think they want subject tests anyways), and a 3.71 unweighted GPA on a 4.0 scale. I have taken many classes at my community college and mostly all Honors/APs.
I would love to study engineering, tech, design, or business of some sort, and minor in another one of those fields. I love entrepreneurship and anything design related. I have also been really interested in human-computer interaction and Informatics recently.
How good are my chances of getting in? I really want to go!!
For example, if you want engineering, your chances are best if you put that on your application, but you only get to list one major. (The form asks about a second choice, but you won’t be considered for direct admit to that major.) (However, most engineering minors are “open” - so that would remain a possibility if you can’t get into the major.)
UW is great for students who know what they want, but the highly competitive major system means that the kids focused like a laser on getting their goals have an advantage over those who want to explore multiple paths.
You should get in to the UW in general. Business admission is likely, engineering possible, CS impossible. If you like human-computer interaction, you might want to consider HCDE – and you have pretty good chances of getting into it.
