Hey guys so my SAT score is 1960. (1300 just math and CR). My weighted GPA is 4.03 and my unweighted GPA is 3.76. So far I have taken 3(and i am currently taking one more) AP classes. AP Chem- 5 on the AP test. AP calc- 5 on the AP test. AP Gov- 4 on the AP test. APUSH- 4.
Extra curriculars
Part of the Model United Nations
Worked at McDonald’s for a year
Volunteered to help recently rehabilitated drug users re-learn math and english.
Taken 3 classes in a community college( 1 B 2 A’s)
I was wondering if I can get into Davis.
Thank You guys

Your stats are similar to what mine were, so I definitely think you have a shot. Exactly how much of a match it is depends on your major, though. I’d say you’re a high match/possibly low reach if you’re going into engineering or bio and a match for anything else.

I am majoring in Biology so does that mean i am less likely to get in?

and just recently took practice ACT’s taking one in September scores are around 32 or 33 mostly

If you get that on the ACT, definitely send those scores.

Bio and engineering are both pretty competitive for admissions. You’re not necessarily less likely to get in by applying under biology, but there will be more competition due to the sheer amount of people applying for it. If you get that kind of ballpark for the actual ACT, it’ll be a definite match.

Hi,
I also want to go to UC Davis

My Records are

Freshman:
Eng: C/B
History: B/B
Science: B-/B+
Math: B/B-

Sophmore:
Eng: A-/A-
Math: C+/B-
Science: C+/B
Science (I took two science classes): C+/B+
History: C+/B

I’m in Junior year currently, I have a 3.0 GPA

Do I have any chance of getting into a UC?

Honestly, it’s too early to tell for sure. Focus on getting your GPA up this year, and getting good test scores. If nothing else, an upward trend this coming year will look good. Good luck!

UCs look almost exclusively at your 10-11 grades.

Take a look at the stats for each UC linked on the right of this page. For Davis, the average GPA of an incoming freshman is 4.07.

With a 2.8 (from your list above) it would be virtually impossible to get your GPA high enough to earn entry into a top UC like LA or UCB or even Davis. If you were to ace the SAT and pull off straight As junior year with an AP course or 2 in the mix, Merced or Santa Cruz may be possible.

Pardon my frankness but, you really should open your mind to the CSU system. If you buckle down, nail the SAT and bring up your GPA Junior year, there are many really good schools you’d be eligible for.

Good luck.

I’m taking 3 honors right now in Junior Year, so if I get a 4.0 this year, will I be able to go to UC Davis?

well, my gpa in sophmore year just dropped because of a family related issue, so can I explain that in the personal statement and then will I have a chance?

Do I have a chance in any UC?

If you get straight As in all 5 classes and 3 of them are recognized as UC Honors or AP courses, you’ll wind up with a 3.7 weighted GPA. That’s a long way from the 4.07 average admitted this year. Add in a perfect SAT and a compelling story and Davis might give you a look but, it would still be a reach.

If you are honest with yourself, posting marks like that has pretty long odds, doesn’t it? You will make yourself miserable. I’d suggest you take a lighter schedule, really. Do your best and post decent grades (like a B+ avg) and solid test scores and there are a bunch of schools open to you. Honest.

While I do indeed agree with you on that, I’m really looking for an education in California and Davis is the best option for me. Do I have a chance in any other UC aside from Davis?

If you were to get good grades (Bs and higher), and a high ACT or SAT score, you might be able to qualify for admission to Merced based on ELC. There’s no way to know that for sure until it comes time to apply and you have that information, though. This gives you an idea of what scores you’d need based on GPA: [University of California - Statewide path](http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/freshman/california-residents/admissions-index/)

If you’re dead set on going to Davis, your best bet would probably be to go to a community college and then TAG into UCD. It doesn’t hurt to apply as a freshman (because hey, you never know), but as NCalRent said your chances don’t look very high.

So when it asks for you GPA, does it mean your GPA in you sophmore-junior year, or your GPA overall, like after senior year of high school?

The only reason I really don’t want to go to a community college, is b/c I want to major in premed and that’ll screw up any chance of me even getting to take the classes for the MCAT, etc.

The GPA on the UC app is your UC GPA. That’s your sophomore and junior year grades, with up to 8 semesters of honors weighting. Freshman year is really only looked at to see if there’s an upward trend, as far as I’m aware.

Would it be possible for me to get accepted to UC Merced or Santa Cruz, then transfer into Davis?

Possible? Yes. But UC-UC transfers tend to be a lot more difficult than the CC route.

So right now in junior year, I have 3 weighted and they’re all UC approved weighted courses. If I get straight As this entire Junior Year and the same in senior year, and I also get a 2000+ score on the SAT and a good score on the ACT and a good score on all of my AP tests, and SAT 2 tests, and put in a few hours for some extra curriculars, will I have a good chance at admission at UC Davis? If not UC Davis, then any other UC, from which I can transfer into UC Davis?
