Will I get in?

CSP2497- You can always go to two years of a community/city college and transfer. My brother did awful in HS, went to SBCC, worked his ass off and ended up graduating from UCSB. Sorry if someone else said that but I didn’t read all the comments.

In calculating your gpa ignore your freshman year. When I calculate your gpa from what you posted on the first page of this thread, I get a 2.8 – but that is with ZERO honors or APs which would raise it. That is 28 points divided by the 10 grades (five each semester.) Pluses and minuses are ignored, give 2 points for each C three for each B and 4 for each A. Add a point for up to 8 semesters of CA certified honors or AP grades and you may come out higher than I did.

IF you really got all As your junior year and three of five courses each semester are weightable, you would have 74 grade points after this year, divided by 20 semester grades, or a 3.7 UC gpa (assuming you take 5 UC a-g requirements each semester.) Again, if your sophomore year had any weightable honors or APs, it would be higher.

While the average ADMITTED to Davis may have been 4.0, the average of those who actually turned down other offers and arrived will have been some measure lower, typically. If a student was admitted BOTH to Davis and Berkeley, for example, they might have ended up at Berkeley. Those more likely to have gone elsewhere despite being admitted to Davis would likely have been those in the higher ranges, since they would have better alternate offers, I would think.

Which isn’t to say how high it was for ENROLLING freshmen in 2013, just that most places that will be a lower average than the average for ADMITTED freshmen.

Getting straight As this year would be a real turn around of your gpa, and I hope you do it. A dramatic change in grades like that could also carry a compelling story.

Your SAT scores, which you don’t yet know, will also be an important component.

Good luck!

I can’t respond to your message because I don’t have enough posts… but the biggest thing you can do is to raise your gpa as much as you can - since a big change in grades would be very telling. Also, your SAT will be a big part, so good luck on that!

Here is what Davis says about the personal statement: [UC Davis : Personal Statement](<a href=“http://admissions.ucdavis.edu/apply/personal_statement.cfm]UC Davis”>http://admissions.ucdavis.edu/apply/personal_statement.cfm)

good luck!
