I am currently ending my junior year. I have a 3.6 gpa currently but I am expecting it to rise significantly in my senior year since my nine-week gpa could be a 4.5.
I took the SATs once and I am taking them again in a month along with the ACT. I was so unprepared the first time. My first scores were:
420-math
480-cr
530-writing
I am planning on majoring in English. I already have great recommendations from my teachers and my mother is a penn state alumni.
I am visiting/going to apply to PSU Main Campus, OSU, Ohio University, Kent State University, Fairmont State University, Westminster University, Mercyhurst University, Juniata College, Rosemont College, and Robbert Morris University. I am just looking for a college or university that has a great English program. Penn State University has always been a dream of mine and with my family, it's Main Campus or nothing. So, I am really hoping that I can get into there but what are my chances? Also, if you know any other colleges with great English programs, your input would be greatly appreciated.

Penn State main - your scores make it a reach. You’re in the bottom 25 percent in all three sections. I’d imagine many of the other schools would be the same. I hope your scores improve when you retake–that would definitely expand your options! Good luck :)

My son applied to four of the schools on your list: Ohio State, Penn State, Ohio and Juniata. He had a 3.6 weighted GPA and a 27 ACT. Pennsylvania resident.

He was deferred and then rejected from OSU. He missed the Penn State priority deadline (Nov 30) by six weeks, and didn’t turn in any of the optional materials, so we weren’t surprised when he was only offered a branch campus (Erie), which he wasn’t interested in. He was accepted to Ohio and Juniata pretty soon after applying.

You should be good for Rosemont. Probably Kent State as well. Look at Bowling Green, too. I believe their writing program is decent. It was one of the others that he applied to and visited.

I think in order for you to have a shot at Penn State main, you should apply as early as you can, select summer start option, send all the optional additional materials, and most importantly, get your scores up.
