Hi, this is my first post on here and I just wanted everyones opinion here.

UGA is my first choice for college by a longshot, and I was wondering what my chances are

My ACT score was a 32, however my GPA is only 3.0. I am an out of state student and attend the #1 ranked highschool in my state (Illinois, I got to Walter Payton). I am not in a ton of clubs or anything but I have played alot of varsity sports and have alot of community service (through church).

Basically, I know I have a great ACT score and go to a really good high school, but I'm hoping I still have a chance due to my GPA. Any thoughts?

I just have to ask - you have UIUC in-state, and you’re choosing to go to UGA out-of-state. What major is driving this decision?

Fisheries and Wildlife is my intended major

I also have two cousins at UGA and have visited, and felt alot more comfortable than at UIUC. Also about half my High school class goes to UIUC.

Is your school rigorous? Did you take AP classes? Is that GPA only your core academic classes?

My school is extremely rigorous, every class is honors (Ranked #1 in illinois). I have taken an AP course (AP language and composition). My GPA is including electives, but is with the honors/AP points subtracted.

what is your UGA calculated GPA…(.5 for honors and no electives)

@ilyssa1257: what do you mean .5 for honors? UGA only adds .5 points for AP classes ONLY IF the student’s school doesn’t add any points. UGA does not strip away honors points given at the high school and respect the school’s scale in that respect. However, additional points are not given if the grade has already been weighted. I’ve had this verified several times over.

lol UGA is not hard to get into. I know somone who got in with a 3.0 gpa and a 23 on the act. He was not involved in clubs/sports.

thats what i meant AP

feinyNY - where was the student from with the 3.0 and the 23 act? - he couldn’t have lived in state - he must have had some other ‘hook’

eh, you see those posts on every forum. “Harvard is easy to get into. My friend had a 3.1 UWGPA and an 1800 SAT score…”. Some of the time, the poster doesn’t really know the person’s scores and just guessed at them (though the poster will usually guarantee that he’s seen “proof”), the individual actually didn’t get in and just told people he did, the individual had something else in the application that was conveniently ignored, or the original poster invented the whole story to discredit a school.
