Will I get in?

Would that technically be an interview, though? As I mentioned earlier, their deadline for interviews has passed.

I suppose technically it would not be an interview, considering that you would be the one requesting the meeting. However, regardless of what it’s called, it would be in your best interest to see if you are able to meet with someone in admissions - it can only help your case. If UDEL is truly your top choice, I would make every effort possible to help your case.

If I remember correctly, on the app last year, there was an optional question asking for an explanation of any grade below a B. That’s where a bad high school freshman year could be explained. I believe the app also asked if UDel was a frist choice. This stood out because it was the only app my son filled out that had these questions.

I applied via Common App, which did have the question for explanation of grades below a B, which I did not even notice until you pointed it out. It didn’t have the other question regarding UDel being a first choice.

I read a letter from the UD President that said they had 8% more applicants than last year, applicants had higher scores and more people applied for honors. And they’re decreasing their freshman class from this year. So it could be somewhat tougher to get in. Sorry for the bad news.

NewHope33:
I have taken your suggestion in sending them that supplementary information, which was slightly over one page on a word document. Thank you for that suggestion.

And misterbill, any type of news, positive or negative, is always appreciated. That is what this thread is for.

Here’s the quote:

As of last Friday, UD’s Office of Admissions had logged 25,066 applications for the fall’s entering freshman class. That’s an 8 percent jump over the same time last year. And again this year, there are notable increases among Delawareans, students of color, and applicants to the Honors Program. With SATs, GPAs, and class ranks running higher than ever before, this should be a particularly competitive admission year, especially as we plan to enroll a smaller freshman class than we did in 2009.

It’s from here: [A letter to the University of Delaware community](A letter to the University of Delaware community)

Well that’s not the most reassuring thing to read, especially with my GPA and what-not. I suppose there’s not much else I can do except wait for my decision.
And handemom, if you’re still reading this thread, you mentioned that your son was a “late-bloomer” in terms of his academic start in high school. If you don’t mind me asking, what was his GPA?

Another edit: I looked at my Common App, and I noticed that for my SAT, I said I took them in June 2008, not 2009. How much would this affect my decision?

I assume that you had the College Board send the scores to the school directly, so it probably doesn’t matter what’s on your application (unless they hold incorrect info against you, which I would hope not for something trivial like that).

Yeah I had them send the scores directly; I just wouldn’t be surprised if some admissions offices would hold that against someone.

I doubt it really matters. If you had claimed to have a higher score, that’s another matter entirely. But since they do not care when you took it, it shouldn’t matter.

I’m really worried because I have only taken three math courses and the highest is trig, not pre-calc.

Since you want honesty, I think your lack of a challenging course load will work against you, especially as it appears that UD will be more difficult to get into this year. But I am sure that others in your situation have been accepted and you do have other stuff that could be of interest to you. I am assuming that you highlighted your strengths in your essay so they know why they should take you beyond your grades.

Yeah I’ve made my strengths clear in my essay and what-not and have displayed a lot of interest. Nothing left to do now but wait.
And honesty is always better than false hope; I appreciate it.

I couldn’t have closer stats, I have M670 CR530 W480 and a 2.98 Gpa, hopefully we both get in, only a couple more days. Are you going if you get in because I am.

First choice as of now, yep.

southharmonit - post your details in a UD thread like everyone else does and maybe you’ll get answers. It’s foolish to expect people to respond about multiple schools in a Villanova thread (plus it will be very confusing).
