I the SAT on October 9th.I'm a senior right now attending high school in a foreign country but I'm American.(Not iin the U.S.A)

The first time I took it I got a 1260 or something(Yes, I'm not the sharpest tool ). This was in 11th. (I did not know I would be moving back the U.S.A till 3 months ago, so I was ignorant about the SAT and didn't take it seriously.). For an utter dull SAT writer like me I think working hard to gain a 1780 from a 1260 is incredible, especially if you consider the span of the time.
I dont think it's that bad because I've researched online and one girl got into Purdue with a 1780. So it cant be horribe.

My grades here in this foreign country are as follows:

10th = 70% aggregate.
11th = 68%
12th = In it right now.
*When most university counsellors came to this country they told me anything from a 60-100 is considered an American A+. I've spoken to several counsellors and it seems they will inflate these aggregates to make the differences in the academic systems equal.

My extracurriculars are as follows:
School basketball team
Student council member
Speech and Debate club

I'm extremely interested in A&M!

I just wanted all of your perspectives . I'd really appreciate it if you can fill me in on if the colleges I've chosen will take me or if you know anything else that I sound like a prospective admittant for.
BTW: I will not be writing the SAT again even though I believe I can get a 1900+. It's too late and I've already lost hope on a branded undergraduate school. So please dont reply with any assumption of me writing again.

you have a very unique situation, way out of normal. None of us are admissions, we do not know what to tell you.
My best advice is to call Admissions and speak with them.

Very unique situation indeed. Thanks for the reply. But from the unique situation aside, how do my Extras and SAT score sound to you? Which college are you applying for (is it in Texas)?

Are the following are your only EC’s?
School basketball team
Student council member
Speech and Debate club
If so - you are pretty weak. No community service hours? Honor clubs? Work after school?
How have you showed extreme interest in A&M?
Your 1780 - Break the SAT out for us by the three parts and we can give a more accurate opinion. A&M doesn’t care about the writting part btw.
What major are you interested in?

I am a former student with a BS in Computing Science and Industrial Engineering.
My daughter is class of '13 Environmental Design - Architecture

I dont have any more EC’s, honors and ETC because I’m doing my high schooling out of the U.S. I shifted to a foreign country afte 8th grade and they have no such EC’s or Honors…etc.

Math :620
CR : 590
WR : 570

BTW: I’m interested in an undergraduate degree in Finance, hopefully I get accepted to the May’s school of business @ College Station.I’m pretty nervous as I’m applying to 3 Universities and only 1 is my safety school. I’m assuming this safety is a sure shot because all my SAT scores are way above the ranges indicated by collegeboard and their websites.

oh… your SAT’s are not in the range for Mays. I hope A&M isn’t your safety school. Mays is way competitive, the most competitive at A&M. I think you would have to be well above 1300 for Mays.

Are you sure? Of course A&M isn’t my safety , I knew it wouldn’t be a breeze but I’m starting to exclude it from my list. Are you really sure because college board indicated that I’m well in the ranges of the majority of students accepted, but then again, thats generalised and it’s for the school overall and not just May’s.

The thing about your chances of getting into Mays is how early you get accepted. Because it is a very popular college, many of the automatic admits put it down first. Therefore, it fills up with mostly top 10% and academic admits before the review candidates get a chance to be accepted. If you don’t fall into either of those categories, A&M is definitely not a “safety” for you as far as the business school goes.

I’m pretty sure… I know a lot of students accepted to Mays. They all were well above your SAT’s. And I think most sent their applications in very early August.
Last two years there were over 28,000 freshman applications to A&M, and the freshman class size ending up around 8200.

Okay, thanks you all for the info! I’ve dropped A&M from my list due to other ineligibilities besides academics. One more thing, I’ve spoken to a University of Texas @ Dallas counsellor and he said I should “typically get in”. My scores are above the automatic admission criteria but that is only for the Texan students. And I’m not Texan. Do any of you think I can consider UTD a safety school? Or that I would get in with ease?

Nothing ineligible from the college’s perspective. I have cut A&M from my list because I’m not allowed to go anyway. That’s what I meant by being ineligible, I consider myself ineligible. I have to stay within a certain radius of my family…my center is Dallas and A&M is just way out the radius. And also due to a long list of other reasons, nothing negative, just too sentimental and psychological.

BTW: I really appreciate the answers but I’d officially shut up about A&M and this thread if someone answers my question regarding the University of Texas @ Dallas.
