Will I get into an Ivy League school?

I am currently a junior in high school. I have a 4.0 GPA unweighted, and somewhere around a 4.75 weighted GPA because I have been taking IB and AP classes. I got a 218 on my PSATs which isn't that great, and I'll be taking my SATs in January. I will be taking at least 4 SAT IIs.

I have over 100 hours of community service just in my sophomore and junior years. I play tennis, swim, draw, and play piano. I speak fluent Chinese (got an 800 on the SAT II) and I have taken 4 years of French plus AP French. I have an internship at Bechtel Engineering and I'm looking to apply to MIT's summer program RSI.

I haven't really won anything recently nor have I entered in any competitions. My school is sorely lacking in support for those areas. I have no clue what I'm going to major in for college or even where I'm going. My interests include all sciences, but also psychology and sociology.

I realize that the last few paragraphs described the "well-rounded individual" but some of my friends were accepted into Harvard and Yale and such. They're definitely not typical though. They all excel at one subject, like music or science, and do it extraordinarily well.

So essentially, I'm good at everything, but great at nothing. I am pretty well balanced in all subjects. I don't know if it helps in other cases, but I am female and MIT is 60% male. I'd like to think that they want to balance the population out. :D

I'd really like to know how good my chances are of getting into a school like MIT, Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, etc. Also, any advice on how to get into these schools would be greatly appreciated!

I am going to say, what I feel, the best advice for you. DO NOT!!! apply to ivies for the sake of going to a prestigious school. Go where you want to attend--happiness at a lower ranked school will do far more for you than being at an ivy and hating it.

Now, you're obviously an intelligent person and should be able to deduce from the forums and collegeboard.com etc that your stats are well within the range along with accomplishments. You have everything necessary to get in, but are you likeable, interesting, and, for lack of a better word, real; do you do everything because you love it, or are most of your actions geared toward getting into a good college?

I'm a well-rounded person, and I still made it into Stanford.. my advice to you is to write good essays and make sure your character shows through in your recs as well. They want someone who is passionate - if you're passionate about everything you do and show them that, being involved in many different areas won't hurt you.

I thought MIT was ~50% male.

You need to keep in mind that almost every ivy applicant has a high GPA and high SAT scores, so it comes down to what else you have to offer. Your ECs are nothing special, so it'll be a tough to get into an ivy. However if you think you'll be truly happy at an Ivy League school, it never hurts to apply ED to one of them in your Senior year.

And MIT isn't an ivy league school anyway.

don't be one of those people who blanket applies to every ivy-league school, go to a school because you like its philosophy

first, I think this belongs in "What are my chances?" forum

2nd...dont go ivy if you dont know what these schools are actually like.

ask a counselor.

It hurts that you're Chinese.

Competitive but not a lock at all. Similar to my D but she applied to all non-Ivies.
