All 5s

GPA: 3.85, but 4.0 Junior Year

I immigrated to America from Middle East at the start of my sophomore year. Grades suffered first semester, and i had a 3.6 unweighted. Next semester I had a 3.95, then 4.0s in both semesters of my Junior year.

Settling into life in America was hell. Complete cultural shock. Public school I went to in my sophomore year had 800 kids per year. Got a scholarship to a rigorous private, and went there for my Junior Year.

Senior Year Schedule:

  • Calculus 2 AP
  • English IV AP
  • AP Physics C
  • AP French V
  • Data Structures (college level)
  • Economics (AP not offered, will self study for AP Exams though)

Major Awards: AIME, TASP, AP Scholar with Distinction

ECs:

weakest part of application, difficult when you immigrate in the middle of high school, and attend 3 different schools.

Religious Tolerance Club Prez and Founder (11,12)
Debate (11, 12) captain as a senior
French Club (11,12)
MUN (10,11,12)

Summer Activities:
Interned at charity summer before junior year, GLOWING rec.
TASP summer before senior

Recommendations:
English Language: 10, wrote my rec for TASP, said i was a talented writer with a unique background
Calculus Teacher: 8, said i belonged in bc calculus, and it was unfortunate I couldnt take it due to not being eligible.

Additional Recommendations:

CEO of the charity I interned at: glowing, she is a Columbia graduate, said any school would be honored to have me.

Ethnicity: Middle Eastern

Major: Either Economics, or Computer Science!

Possible Hooks: nothing lol. maybe immigrant from Saudi Arabia? interesting perspective. Have lived all over the world. And I speak English, Arabic, Urdu, and am taking AP French

Where is your home state? UMich would be a low reach for you due to the low admission rate and your GPA. Indeed, it is hardly a match for any OOS students.

@billcsho home state is Indy‼️ Any thoughts on the other schools on my list?

Purdue should be a low match to near safety. All the other ones are reaches, although a couple are low reaches.

@compscitangent
Princeton (SCEA)- Low Reach

  • Columbia University (RD)- Reach
  • Northwestern University (RD)- Reach
  • Stanford University (RD)- Reach
  • Harvard University(RD)- Reach
  • Yale University (RD)- low Reach/Reach (CS major increases chances)
  • Purdue University (RD) and computer science and in state- Safety
  • University of Michigan (RD)- Low Match/Match
  • Dartmouth University (RD)- Low Reach/Reach
  • Cornell University (RD) computer science- High Match/Low Reach
I would be shocked if Purdue or UMich rejects you.

You have better chances than most Ivy applicants. But you are unhooked, so it is possible that you could get rejected everywhere. SCEA at Princeton will be your best Ivy chance, followed by Northwestern and Cornell.
