will i get into anything?

so i took the sat's, and i gotta 1700+
my math and writing are 600+ but my reading is like 490. most, if not all, of the colleges i'm applying to have their lowest scores around 500. is my 490 going to affect my chances of getting in, if it's just 10 points lower than their average?

Well colleges look at your app holistically so make sure your ECs, courseload and grades impress them. Besides you have at least 3 times to take the SATs (unless you’re a senior now and that was your only time taking them), so don’t fret!
Just put a lot of work into your apps and to really tip the balance in your favor, request interviews and attend campus tours and info sessions. These things help!

Relax. You will be fine. Excellent advice above.

This is untrue, the vast majority of colleges practice quantitative admission.

It depends on the colleges you’re applying to how much your application will be impacted. You can look at their common data sets to see how many are accepted with your score.

Here’s an example:

[Brown Admission: Facts & Figures](<a href=“Undergraduate Admission | Brown University”>Undergraduate Admission | Brown University)

alright, thanks for the info

Colleges look at your applications holistically, trust me. I have seen many people denied from schools such as Rice or Vanderbilt with 34-36, where as people with 29-32 may be accepted. While your ACT/SAT score is taken into consideration, it is usually not enough for a college to throw your application away. If you are in the ball range of what it accepts, even a little lower, your scores will not be the deciding factor. It will be your recs and most importantly, your essay because, if anything, your essay presents your personality to the college more than anything. It shows them you.

Think, why else would they include an essay? They don’t want someone with a perfect 1600 who cannot write an essay with enthusiasm.

So, yes, they look at things holistically. However, if your school normally accepts 1580-1600 SAT scores and you have a 1200 SAT scores - then you understand, no? =]

It is just the average. If you have other parts of your application strong enough to get the adcoms focus on these other factors it is okay. Also, if the other parts of the SAT are well positioned you will be fine.
GOOD LUCK!!

Can you chance me please.
