I think you’ve got a shot depending on how the school will view your AC’s.
The school has a low acceptance rate unfortunately, which means that applicants should reach the minimum standards or get fairly close to have a decent shot. Your ACT is about average for the school, but your GPA is slightly short—don’t think it would be the hugest deal however.
You will have to make up for it in your essay and recommendations alongside your AC’s. I think you’ll fare better than their average in those two things, so you should focus on those. You do have a legacy there which definitely helps. Currently I’d estimate your chance to be around 50 - 60%, keeping in mind their acceptance rate is lower than that. Make it up during application and senior year and you should be golden. Good luck.
That means a lot and is comforting. I am going to request an interview because I have literally wanted to go there since I was 5 years old and maybe can get the point across. I am going to apply in late September so maybe that will help my chances too.
BC doesn’t have ED, only EA I believe @RightCoaster and from what I learned at their open house, EA only accepts the top students and defers the majority for RD consideration.
For sure, I’d say you’ve got a decent shot, that family connection I think is a really good selling point. Your scores are right in the thick of things and your EC’s aren’t too shabby. I would definitely say an early action application would put you in a pretty good position to be accepted.
You definitely have a shot with the legacy, good course load, and leadership you have. Go for EA, if you get accepted, it’s off your plate, and if you are deferred, you already have your app done.
Your GPA isn’t amazing, but your corse load is rigorous. I think that you have a good chance especially with your legacy status. The aunt, uncle, and a cousin are not usually considered legacy, but your father is. Good luck!
@rmochx thanks a lot. on tp of that I have a family friend who is a triple eagle and is friends with the old dean of housing so hopefully things work out.
Apply EA. You are right in t he ball park (Fenway!) Your gpa is a little low, but not by too much. Your strength of schedule is solid, SAT scores are good. Write a great essay. best of luck to you.
Hey, thank you. I think my essays will stand out. One is about my brother and I getting separated from my family at the Boston Marathon Bombing. The other is about my friend with Down Syndrome and my Uncle who is blind due to the fact he had a rare cancer. Hope they stand out.
I think you’re likely to get in because your ACT is strong enough. Is your hs considered strong/rigorous? If so, your gpa is fine as well. But one thing you should do, is make sure your essay is about you. Don’t approach the essay thinking you are writing about a disabled friend or sick relative- the essay first and foremost needs to be about you. You can use those topics as the backdrop, but you need to reveal things about yourself.
10 AP’s and 8 Honors throughout high school. The essay is abut a decision you would make… they are mentioned and a backdrop but I am talking about what I would do personally.
