Just got my SAT scores back… and now im worried. I got a 1320 on my SAT. I got a 450 on critical reading, a 390 on math, a 480 on writing, and a 6 on the essay. My school grades are pretty good, except for my ninth grade year. In 9th grade i think the worst grade i got was a C and i cant remember my GPA for that year but i know it was somewhere in the 3’s. In 10th grade i got straight A’s and i took two honors classes i think. My GPA for that year was a 4.1. in 11th grade i took two AP’s and i got straight A’s. My GPA for this year is 4.5. Im going to be a senior this upcoming year and im taking either two or three AP’s. im planning on getting straight A’s again, hopefully it happens. Overall im hopeing to have an accumulative of a 4.0 or above. For Cal Poly im pretty sure i dont need to write an essay or have a recommendation letter. Im going to be volunteering for 100 hours in my senior year, and i have a couple of clubs im involved in. What do you think my chances are of being admitted into Cal poly? im in state, and will be living at home. its honestly my only option for college besides community because my parents dont want me moving out and it being the closest colllege. i think the only fault in my application would be my SAT, but hopefully my chances are high. Please give me your opinions.
CPP uses the only your CSU GPA and SAT/ACT score for admissions. Only 10-11th grades are used for the calculation.

You have an excellent GPA but your SAT score will hurt you depending upon your major. For impacted majors, many will require a minimum SAT/ACT Math and CR score. You need to prep this summer and retake or try the ACT. Good luck
Im going to retake it in October. If i dont do any better, do you think my chances of getting in are crushed? Im horrible when it comes to these types of tests.
If your 10-11 GPA is better than 4.0, you’ll likely be admitted even with your current SAT.
What is your intended major? This will determine if you have a decent chance at an acceptance or not using your current SAT score.
My intended major would be either kinesiology, biology, or psychology. im still deciding.
All the majors you have listed are considered impacted, so your SAT and/or ACT score will be important in determining your chances for admission. You will be ranked for your major using the eligiblity index (CSU GPAx800) + (SAT M+CR). CPP will then accept applicants in the major by highest EI down until all spots are filled.
My niece applied this past year for Biotechnology which is impacted. She was in the local service area with a CSU GPA 3.23/ ACT 30/SAT 1900. She was waitlisted with an EI of 3824. Just to give you an idea of the competitiveness of the impacted majors.
Assuming your CSU GPA is 4.0, your EI would be 3990 which is pretty good, but I would still aim to raise your test scores to ensure an acceptance.
what if i enter as a major that is not impacted as much?
Yes, you can select an non-impacted major, but CPP also considers your alternate, so I would apply to a first choice major and put a non-impacted major as your alternate. In the meantime, I would retake the SAT or try the ACT before applications are due in November just to seal the deal.
