I am a transfer student about to graduate in June with an AA degree and wanted to apply for Hunter this winter. I am a minority (black female) and from WA state. I have a 3.0 right now but hopefully it will raise to a 3.1-3.2 by the end of the quarter. Will I have a decent change to get into the school? They look like they have a good IR program with the Political science department.

When did you apply? Honestly if you were in CUNY system get a AA from there, you would have a better chance. But you are a out of state applicant so Hunter always love diversity. So it is a 50/50 chance. I got accepted to Hunter for the spring so they have til January to tell you. I remember applying last year to Brooklyn and City and they denied me because they had already accepted the 1,000s limit and I believe it was because I was at a CC and they wanted an associates.

Really? I was thinking maybe I should transfer and finish my AA at one of the CUNY CC’s but they don’t have housing for the CC’s they have. So it looks like I’m going to have to wait. Did you apply late? Maybe that was it? Or I could just wait until I get my AA and then apply in the Summer for their spring admissions? Idk what to do.

I apply September 1st and the deadline was the 15th. You did not apply now for the Spring 2012?

No, I still don’t have one requirement to apply yet. I already taken one college level English class (English 101) but I don’t have my college level math yet (unfortunately and stupidly I put off taking math sine ive been in college because I hate it!) So now I am in a two week review course that goes over all of the math classes to asses where I am at with math.

Hopefully I can test out of math 99 and go straight into college level math. I’ve been studying everyday now for the past week and now I am into intermediate algebra. I think I should sign up for the spring 2013 (I hate that I have to wait longer to go to a university!) and should be done with math then.

IF you did apply and got accepted, they will have you take a CUNY Assessment test to determine if you have to take remedial or go into a college course. Honestly, you would not know unless you apply.

There is no housing for CCs but you can live in an off housing dorm where it has students from different schools. It is usually a little more expensive that a regular dorm. Here is a link to one of them.

I would apply for not only Hunter but their housing and see if you get in. Now unfortunately, Hunter has closed applications for transfers. So you will have to apply in the Fall 2012. Also, have a back up such as the above ink to housing because it is hard to get housing for Hunter because they give Macauly(sp) Honors students free housing (for only two years) and there is a waiting list.

Honestly, I got an AA and I wish that I didn’t because most of my classes are electives not require courses. So I literally have to BS now to found courses to put me within 120 credits to graduate. Base on your GPA your grades are not. To get into a CUNY four school, you need a 2.0. Hunter has an average of a 3.1. I would suggest you pass your remedial course and take a college level Math course and apply for the Fall.

You will never know unless you apply.

Thanks for the reply stargirl93. I was nervous about applying due to that math credit requirement! I swear math is evil or something, lol. Thanks for the post reassuring, I should just apply and see where it takes me.

Hunter College High School

lol @ fharis. I’ll make it up by going into a prestigious grad school. In what I’m planning to major in, Columbia’s SIPA grad program looking good and many of Hunter’s alumni went there after undergrade.
