Hey! I applied to UT Austin with the December 1st deadline
So I’m the top 9% of my class
SAT score: 1430
Reading: 640
Math:790
ACT:28 (but I didn’t turn that score in)
I’m in NHS and have led many leadership camps.
I also have leadership experiences abroad
With many EC’s as well
Turned in 2 REC letters
Have my own business experiences that I have been working on for the past 5 years…
What are my chances of getting in? I have seen people that have gotten in through the early admissions process with having ranks like top 16%…
I was also accepted into May’s business honors (they only accept 85 people)
The dean of admissions said my essays were very well written and interesting
Does the fact that I didn’t apply early going to affect my chances of getting into UT?
Thank you so much!
Hello, My son is interested in going to UT Austin McCombs for business as well. His current GPA as a Junior is 4.0 and his ACT is 31. He’s planning on taking the ACT again to see if he can get a better score. We’re from Washington State. I would appreciate any advice about what he could do to improve his chances on getting accepted into the UT Austin business major as a freshman “direct admit”? Thanks in advance. AC
You cannot be a ‘direct admit’ to any college at UT other than General Studies. This is something that people don’t understand about UT. You are NOT guaranteed admission to your college of choice if you are in the top 10% and a Texas resident. Each college has their own admissions process.
@Bee Ch If by direct admit you mean admitted as a freshman to McCombs, getting his ACT up is a good start. 31 is good but of course 32 is better. Understand that UT can only accept 10 percent of the class from out of state or international. That is a law and it makes OOS admissions very tough. If his class ranks, he’ll need to be pretty high in rank-although it doesn’t matter as far as the Texas law is concerned, they are looking at things like rank in their holistic process. Submit and expanded resume and work hard on the essays. Search this forum for the Best Practices in Admission link and learn about the process. Good luck!
