Will I get into NYU?

Hey guys! I need some input ASAP please. I’m a senior and I have to start applying to unis in a few months. I’ve been reading so many “Will I get in?” type things and everybody hs so much that they are going to put on their application and its really starting to worry me I might not get in. Basically, NYU is my DREAM school! I want to live in NYC so bad and that seems like the best, most reasonable uni there for me. So if you don’t think I have what it takes to get in, are there any other similar schools in NYC like it? Possibly with a higher acceptance rate?

Anyways here’s everything since 10th grade:

-GPA 4.0

-Honor roll every quarter

-Valedictorian, ranked first every single year

-10th grade citizenship award

-SAT 1840 (I’m retaking it in October so I’m hoping to raise it to at least 2000)

-No AP classes because my school doesn’t offer any, BUT my whole schedule is packed. I’ve had a total of 4 years of a wide variety of English, science, social studies, math (even calculus), and foreign language (Spanish and Arabic)

-In charge of stage set up and décor for a school play (we had no prior props so everything was made from scratch) Also have been in charge of decorating, from scratch, for independence day, science fair, and multiple kids activities, and aiding in and raising money for prom committee (my school doesn’t really have clubs or sports, but I want to be involved as much as possible and would love to be in certain clubs in university that i dont have the opportunity to participate in here.

-Work about 25-30 hours a week during school and 60 hours a week during the summer at a kids fun center. I have multiple jobs there: one of the birthday party coordinators, piñata maker, babysitter, as well as cashier. My main focus is working instead of many EC’s or clubs because I’m tying to save up money a well as help my family (because we are struggling financially, but I’ve done the calculations for NYU its a bit more but they gave me a great financial aid estimate as well as scholarships so that part would be covered.)

-Constantly volunteering through opportunities at my work place, school, and on my own. I get the chance to host free fun days for the orphans of a orphanage/education center quite often. I also volunteer with the AMAN organization, we do a bunch of activities and events to raise money for a fund in which we raise money so poor families in urgent need of surgery and medical care can get it.
(idk if this counts bc it was during 9th grade ((and I have a bunch of other things from 9th grade)) but I also used to volunteer on average of maybe more than 15 hours a week at my taekwondo center back when I lived in America. We did a variety of things for our community, including hosting a huge taekwondo event and raising over $50,000 for Kosair Children’s Hospital. I also was most outstanding student of the year there)

-Also, if it matters I was nominated and got almost a full scholarship to Global Youth Leaders Conference but I still couldn’t afford the rest so I didn’t go. I was also interested in a few summer programs and workshops but I couldn’t afford them.

-I also have played piano for 10 years, viola for 7 years (was first chair the whole time I was in an orchestra, and received about 3 distinguished rated solo awards), and guitar for 3 years

I’m superrrr sorry for how long this is but I just wanted to be sure everything was thorough so you guys could give me a more accurate and narrowed opinion

Valedictorian status and working as a paid job will definetely help you a lot. However, your SAT score and no APs will hurt you. Aim for 2000+ or 30+ on ACT. And I think you have a great shot. Good luck!

IF you get in, how do you plan to pay for NYU?

Exactly ^^^^^.
NYU has horrible financial aid. If you couldn’t afford the leadership conference, how will you pay $72k in yearly costs???
Your SAT scores and lack of rigor (AP courses) is going to hurt you.

Thanks for the answers  I used a nyu estimated aid/scholarship calculator and they said at least 50,000$. And then between me getting a job and my parents paying a but I thought it wouldn’t be that bad… But 've seen some places saying they just say that but then if you get in they don’t tend to meet that. Is this true?
Also, can it hurt me that much if my school doesn’t even offer AP? The school itself is already very challenging. 75% of our grade is just from quizzes and tests.

And again, are there any other schools that would give me the same experience I’m looking for like NYU? Preferably in NYC, and still a good/well known school but with a higher acceptance rate. I need a school in fairly certain id get into in case I don’t get into NYU or if the cost will be a problem…

Fordham University in NYC! They have a campus in the Bronx & Midtown. Check them out! Ranked 58 (I think? Its above 60 for sure) in USNWR if you want to look at rankings. Very underrated school, check it out!

There’s also George Washington in DC. Very Urban and NYU-Like. Decent school, also ranked in top 60 schools in the US. In addition to GW, theres also Georgetown, though it’s not too much like NYU…but still urban as its nestled in the Georgetown area of DC which is very gorgeous!

There’s also Drexel & Upenn in Philadelphia, both are located in a very urban area, albeit they differ from NYU a bit because they actually have campuses, and aren’t just scattered buildings. They are still VERY urban as they are in the city.

Good luck! I’m also looking to apply to NYU as a transfer! I’ve heard some stories where people receive AMAZING financial aid from schools like NYU & GW, which are renown for their terrible FA. That amazing FA goes to very few kids who just so happen to be lucky though, so maybe one of us will be one of these kids (if we get in!).

Good luck!

Your school does not offer AP classes, so colleges will not hold that against you. As long as you can bring your SAT up to a 1950 i think your in.
