Will i get into Penn State University Park with these stats??/

Hello i am just trying to estimate my chances of getting into PSU main. Here are my stats (currently a senior in high school)
9th grade weighted Gpa- 3.999
10th grade weighted Gpa- 4.2857
11th grade weighted Gpa - here i transferred schools and the way they do Gpa is wierd i dont understand it, it says i have a cumulative weighted GPA of 101.53, im hoping this translates into like a 4.03. Am i right to assume this?
My nonweighted cumulative gpa is 3.6.
Sat score - 1320
im not really sure how the weighted/ nonweighted gpa thing works but do you guys think i will get into PSU main with this^^^? Thanks to everyone in advance

In state or out of state?

in state. Extracurriculars include Football, diversity Club and a few other things nothing too impressive

It depends a lot on your major. Engineering and business (Smeal) are the most competitive for admissions. You probably should apply DUS (undecided) if you’re considering one of those. You may want to post your question in the Penn State sub-forum.

It’s possible, your SAT is upper end of middle 50%, and your GPA is about middle. Engineering is more competitive.

It doesn’t matter generally if you are in state or out of state. In fact, the evidence has shown that it’s actually a benefit to being out of state. But that’s another thread.

That being said, PSU will look at your weighted GPA and your SAT. Your weighted GPA looks to be a 4.0 + and your SAT is solidly in the middle of the 50%. I suspect you will have no trouble with a general admission (i.e DUS or liberal arts or lots of other majors). If you are applying Smeal, then all bets are off because it’s so competitive. If your plan is engineering or smeal I would apply undecided (DUS) and work the recommended academic plan from there. You will not be behind at all and everyone has to meet the same entry to major requirements and apply to the major at the end of sophomore year - regardless of if they were accepted pre major as a freshman or came in through the DUS route.

What is your expected major?

One caveat to the above is if your high school weights very easily. Then, the unweighted may be taken more into consideration. I’ve seen people with 4.0’s get rejected because the weighting scale made their 4.0 meaningless.

I was planning on majoring in either chemical or petroleum engineering, so are you suggesting that i select Undecided as my major? will that affect my schedule or anything else like that?

Entering in DUS versus entering in the College of Engineering changes basically nothing. In both cases, you don’t enter your major until fourth semester or so. You just follow the recommended academic plan: http://advising.engr.psu.edu/degree-requirements/academic-plans-by-major.aspx

Yes, that’s what I am suggesting. As bodangles pointed out above, starting DUS does not change anything. Everyone has to apply to get into their major at the end of their sophomore year and whether you start DUS or in the college of engineering, you have to take the exact same “entry to major” requirements and apply for the major at the same time. Going in DUS vs. Engineering changes nothing in your recommended academic plan (your schedule) and you will not be behind at all.
