Hello All,
I am a male applying to Phillips Exeter Academy for junior year boarding. I would love to know my chances as decisions come out in less than five days!
Grades: About a 94 GPA, weighted, plus I have taken several honors courses. (math and spanish)
SSAT: definitely my weak point, only about 85% percentile…
EC’s: classical piano for 10 years
-Violin in my school orchestra for 4 years
-Varsity Track and Field for a year
-Co-captain of the middle school track and field team
-Co-editor of the middle school newspaper
-altar server at my church ( I also do lots of volunteer work through them Ex. food pantry stuff, community dinners, etc…)
-I also took a summer writing course at Brown University this past summer
-Theater (5 years, lead role this year in the play)
-Summer internship at regional playhouse (professional theater internship)
My interview went really well, and I think that I have good chances from that standpoint…
I think I have pretty great recommendations, my teachers seem to like me… (I hope!)
I am a male of hispanic decent (I don’t know if that will help or not, but worth mentioning) and I am not asking for any financial aid.
Hi, I just got into Exeter, hope you got in! And what mrnephew said, that’s usually the case with most boarding schools, but I had a talk with the Dean of Admissions Michael Gary, and he said that admission rate goes up the higher the grade. It’s really difficult to get in as a 9th grader, some do repeats (that’s what I did to get in), but as a junior they take more relative to the 9th and 10th grades. Good luck, and wherever you decide to go you’ll do great!
There is a chance, but it’s low. After all, who gets into Exeter and turns it down? Don’t give up through. Last year, I was WL by St Pauls and Exeter, and this year I was accepted by Exeter, NMH and St. Paul’s!
Hey, so one more question… since I was wait listed, I wrote a really nice letter that I poured myself into… do you think this will help? Also, when is the most common time to find out that you have gotten off the waiting list?
@Jackpops245: The general time to hear is April 10, because that’s the absolute last day those who were accepted will be able to either confirm or deny their acceptances. From there, the Exeter AOs will determine the number of those accepted who yielded and the size of the new incoming class. They’ll then see if they will start taking kids off of the waitlist.
can you tell me what each subjects individual grade was. I am applying for Exeter for the 2016-2017 school year and would like to compare my grades. Thank you
