Will i get into stanford with a 2180?

HEy!

just got back my SAT scores and got 2180... 640 CR, 760 Math and 780 writing.
Will I be able to get into Stanford like this? Does stanford just look at the marks or the percentiles and do they take the SAT that seriously?

very hopeful!

well cr seems to be a bit low, but other scores are fine..

i too received my scores today..i got 2170
cr - 740, m- 710, w - 720
are these score in range for stanford??

please reply!!!

saashi87 -- the math and writing scores are great; CR's more important than writing, though (as a general rule), so if you're a junior and can re-take, do so.

The SAT is taken reasonably seriously, although a low score won't automatically boot you or anything (just as a high score won't get you in automatically) -- it's not the end-all and be-all of your app, but it is obviously necessary.

davincicodes -- >700 is generally reasonably competitive, although virtually all of the applicant pool will have similar or better scores; if you're happy with these, and have a strong application in other respects, I wouldn't worry about it. <2200 isn't going to toss you from consideration.

For both of you - those scores should not keep you out of the game. No score will "get you in".

As a general rule, you should aim for >700 on each section. If you are a "math person", your math score should be 800 or close to it. (Some people score better on SAT IIs then SAT I, as those are more knowledge-based.)

I'm majoring in Chemistry, and I got a 690 in Math, 720 in Writing, a 770 in Critical Reading, and a 710 on the Math Level 2 Subject Test (yeah it sound like I'm screwed). But I applied Early Action and got deferred, so my scores didn't automatically keep me out! :) remember that a lot of people are in the same boat as you, with very similar scores, and, like the previous posters said, your scores will not keep you from being admitted. What matters the most now are your essays, recommendations, and ECs. Take a deap breath and know that you did fine.

I'm NOT a math person at all. I have 630 on SAT math, and 710 on Math IIC. I'm more of a humanities person--->740 CR, 740 W, and 760 Lit, 750 USH, and surprise, I'm asian! Anyways, will the low math scores hurt me alot????

oh man you guys are great! thanks for all the encouragement!

Yes I will have to really work hard on my grades in school and me ECs and essays.

Hey I got a 2160 and still got in. It might have been different though because I got 800M 700CR and 660W and I heard that they weren't counting W last year but I'm not sure. So there is hope if you got a 2180 :)

2180 is definitely within range.

Writing doesn't matter much. It's inflating your score. But even so a 1400 M+V is still totally fine. If you feel that you can do better, then by all means go ahead--it might make you feel more at ease in the admissions process if you have a higher score. It won't hurt to retake. But don't feel pressured. Stanford's middle 50% for CR is 660 - 760. You're below the middle range for accepted applicants, but not TOO far below...nothing that can't be easily changed.
