Will I get into Stony Brook?

Is it hard to get into Stony Brook University?(Suny stony brook)

I have a GPA of 87.326 (or a 3.3 out of 4.0)

I also have lots of extracurriculars and clubs, and a job. I've also taken 2 APs, and am currently taking 3 for a total of 5 at the end of my senior year.

I got deferred from Stony Brook early action, do you think I will get in now for regular decision?

Thanks!

If you got decent SATs i think you’ll get in with that average. Stony really is not that selective.

You’ll probably be okay as long as if you have SATs of at least 1900 overall 650+ in math

Your SAT scores are at the very minimum. A lot will depend on your SAT scores (if are they in the range), essays and other softs.

Keep in mind that overall the SUNYs (Bing and stonybrook in particular) have received a record number of application (due to student/parents looking for more “reasonably” priced schools). If you did not get picked up during EA it is going to be harder for you to get picked up RD.

Almost everyone in my schools got accepted including myself and I only had an 88 average.

SAT scores were pretty low as well, I think you should be fine SB isn’t too selective and as long as your SAT scores are above 1800 or so you should have a chance I would imagine.

You shouldn’t have a problem, I myself got into Stony with just an 82 average and a 17-something on the SATs and I was part of three clubs (one of which was a gaming club), so you should be good.

Considering that the OP received his decision 4 months ago and has presumably started his freshman year of college, I’d say that’s a moot point.

Don’t bump old threads, please.

Hey,

If anyone wants an update…

I did not get into Stony Brook the first time around(when I applied as a high school senior, and when I started this thread).

For any current high school applicants, this story may help you out or apply to you:

I applied as a high school senior about one week prior to the deadline(11/15/2008). I received a letter notifying me that I had been deferred. I was then awaiting a response during the Spring semester, and was waitlisted. In May, I was then sent an email, asking me if I wanted to remain on the waitlist. I received two more emails of this sort, in June and then in July. I replied back to each of these emails saying that I would like to remain on the waiting list.

They ended up sending me a letter on August 14th, 2008(This is almost NINE (9) MONTHS AFTER I sent my application in). From November, to August…

I ended up going to UMass Amherst for a semester, transferring to Stony Brook, hated it here, and now I’m going to Binghamton as a sophomore, for the fall 2010 semester.

Interesting story, isn’t it!!??

Yes it is an interesting story! I’ve heard a lot of people don’t like Stony Brook since people go home or to the city for the weekend :(. Congrats on Bing though! It’s probably the best SUNY and considering you had an 88 average in HS the fact that you could do well enough in college to get into Binghamton is VERY impressive.

rainbowrose,

Thanks!! Yup, I’ve only been at SB for one semester so I can’t say much. Around 50% commute(much more than I anticipated) and an additional 35% are more than willing to take the train ride home on weekends(the train station is conveniently situated on campus).

Stony Brook University is a great school, but just wasn’t the fit for me, and I was depressed for much of my time here.

I made a typo in my other post…

“They ended up sending me a letter on August 14th, 2008”

Stony Brook sent me a decision letter on August 14th, 2009 (Almost 9 months after I applied).

Hey guys,

As most of you may already know, Stony Brook has gotten harder to get accepted to over the years, and this is making me super nervous to get in! I would like to know if I have any chance of getting into SB with the following: btw i applied for a biology major (school of arts and sciences).
GPA- 90.6 unweighted, 93 weighted
SAT- 1460 out of the 2400 scale
2 AP’s and plenty of honors classes over the years
My college essay is my greatest strength and probably the best part of my application
My Resume is really good too- i have won 2 awards, have 3 leadership roles in school clubs, and I have had several volunteer jobs, one of which was at a hospital where I explored the field of medicine with great physicians, which is something i mentioned in my resume.

What do u guys think my chances are?

Guys I’ve got a 1910 sat score 670 math 590 reading and 680’writing and a 96 gpa with other extracurricular activities. Will I get into stony brook university and its computer science program
