hi everyone!

I really want to get into university of il at urbana champaign. Their accepted GPA is a 5.11 and a ACT of 31 compared to previous students at my school.... but currently my GPA is at 4.98..... I had a very rough last two years....
freshman year my GPA was a 5.55, sophomore year was 5.12 and junior was a 4.27.....

but my ACT score is 34, so will i get in?? should i tell the admissions officers my dilemma as to what happened junior/ sophomore year??

thank you!!

p.s. my school's highest GPA is 6, not a 4.

Are you talking about weighted GPA?

what’s the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA???
sorry this is a dumb question, but my family and i immigrated to US 6 years ago and none of us have any experience with the American high school and college process… thanks!

“Weighted GPA” usually refers to GPA with bonus points for honors and AP courses.

However, check to see if the desired universities have their own special rules for calculating GPA for admissions – many of the public universities that get tens of thousands of applications have some sort of standardized method and reporting arrangements with same state high schools. Some use class rank instead of GPA (e.g. Texas).

Weighted gpa factors in ap and pre-ap classes

that’s weighted GPA, i don’t know my unweighted…
thanks everyone!

any more advice???

The answer depends in part on what school within UIUC you’re applying to. The requirement (especially the math requirement) is significantly higher for engineering school applicants than for LAS applicants.

i’m thinking of may be going into pre-dental… biology major?? and followed by culinary art minor… maybe…
