I’m currently a junior in the state of California.
My freshman and sophomore grades were good, as I got 4.0’s both years. But in my first semester of junior year, I got 5 B’s and 1 A. It was a combination of bad luck as well as slacking off, because 3 of those B’s were B+'s that had either dropped from A-'s or weren’t high enough to be rounded up. They were ALL so close, and I fear my chances of getting into a good school.
My second semester of junior year is better, as I anticipate all A’s. I took one AP in sophomore year and 4 APs in junior year. I took honors math, honors english, and honors science in both freshman and sophomore year.
My ACT score is a 35, and I got 800’s on both SAT Math II and SAT Chemistry. I have several extracurriculars, though I will only be listing the ones I deem as notable. I intern at UCSF, I have played the violin since the second grade, I am the president of UNICEF club, I have participated in annual drama productions for a large cultural organization and was the lead role of last year’s production, and I have undertaken in many artistic endeavors, like painting backdrops for plays and designing/making sets.
But UC’s are getting increasingly difficult to get into, and they’re also more “stats based” than anything. My unweighted GPA - including both freshman and first semester of senior year - would probably be around 3.7/3.8. My UC GPA would probably be around 4.1. My first semester GPA for junior year was a horrible 3.2, but that’s not including second semester. Both semesters averaged would likely result in something around 3.6.
I doubt my chances but I would like to know from others with greater knowledge.
