My major is Psychobiology. This major is only offered at UCLA and UCSB so those are my top schools, but I would love to go to UCLA. I’ve calculated my GPA and in the best case scenario, I will be applying with a 3.58 GPA. I checked the statistics on the UCLA website and the average GPA admitted for this major was around 3.70. This really scares me and I’m trying my best to not be discouraged by it, but I can’t help it. My GPA is so low because of Chemistry. I have taken two courses so far and have gotten C’s in both. I’m enrolled in a Chemistry course right now and I don’t expect anything above a C. The professor I have is notorious in my community college and students celebrate a C. Anyways, that’s what’s bringing my GPA down. Chemistry and I just don’t click. I do the work, but I just don’t get it. I do have a number of extra curricular activities, though, and most of them are affiliated to UCLA. I’ve been in MEDPEP, CCP, got a small internship with NASA (JPL), am in the campus honor society, have volunteered for 2+ years at a hospital, I’ve been on the Dean’s Honors List (not as a STEM student, though), and I’m a member of MESA. I just want you to get an idea of what I’ll be including in my application. I have two more years to finish so I’ll probably end up doing some more things. Anyways, given my GPA and extracurricular activities, do you think I even have a shot at getting into UCLA as a Psychobiology major? I’ll also be applying as Neuroscience or Cognitive Science at other schools, including UCSD and UCI. Do you think I have a chance there? Please let me know your honest opinion and please provide any constructive criticism. I would really appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance!
You can tag UCSB mister.
I’d say TAG UCSB and TAP UCLA.
I don’t think your GPA is the biggest issue. I think the fact that you’re getting C’s in chemistry is more of a concern since you want to go into psychobiology. I don’t think that will put you in good favor with UCLA to be honest.
