I am an In-state student that lives in Sugar Land Texas and goes to a very competitive high school . Both of my parents went to school in the Philippines . My dad and mom have a bachelors degree.
Thanks
No, you will not. Consider other options.
I would definitely look elsewhere. Even if you somehow got into these schools, the engineering schools are hyper-selective and most engineering students are chosen as freshmen in the top 10% of their class. They allow a few external applicants in every semester, but the chances are around 10% even if you had a near 4.0 college GPA. I would consider UTSA and Texas State. They have excellent engineering programs without being hyper-selective.
No. You will not get into either UT Austin or Texas AM for engineering. Sorry to be so blunt, but it’s better to know ahead of time, prepare yourself and make backup plans. You are competing against kids who also go to competitive schools, are in the top 6-10% and have SAT scores in the high 1300s-1500’s.
Add UT Arlington and UT Tyler to your list. Those are a maybe. Have you had AP Calc BC? If not, please take Calc 1 at a community college this summer. You will 100% need it.
With third quarter class rank, UT Austin and Texas A&M - College Station are unrealistic reaches.
More realistic Texas publics:
Lamar
Midwestern State
Prairie View A&M
Texas A&M - Corpus Cristi
Texas A&M - Kingsville
UT El Paso
UT Tyler
UT Permian Basin
West Texas A&M
You should reconsider engineering all together. Engineering is one of the most academically challenging of all college majors. Even the strongest high school students struggle at times with college engineering curriculum. I would not recommend it.
Sit with your college counselor and discuss other options. You have great extracurriculars filled with musical interest and you seem enthusiastic. There are many other great options for someone like yourself.
Good luck!
If you’re passionate about engineering try Texas Tech, UTSA, UT Arlington, and Texas State. UTD is a reach for you, but you never know what can happen. However, they’re engineering is 3rd best in TX (after UT and A&M) which may be hard for you to get in.
