Will I get into UVA?

Hi, everyone. This is my first time on this website, so if I am not giving you enough information, please let me know.

I am an upcoming sophomore at Penn State (not University Park, a smaller campus) and want to transfer to UVA’s McIntire School of Commerce. I went to schools in Virginia, so if I get in, UVA will be an in-state school. I am an ORM, and I recently received my citizenship (not sure if this matters or not).

Grades wise, I ended my first semester with 3.94, 4 A’s and 1 A-, and second semester with 3.55, 3 A’s, 1 B+, and 1 C+ (which kills me). That B+ was from my accounting class (I am planning to study Accounting as my major) and that C+ was from my general ed science class. Anyways so overall, I have 3.74, and I was on Dean’s List for both semesters.

I am not sure what else information I should give you guys, but do you guys think if I get really good grades next two semesters, I have a chance to get into McIntire?

My other option was to stay at Penn State and go to Smeal after next year, but I thought why not try transferring to an in-state school, which is so much closer to my house and provides so much cheaper tuition.

Please give me any advice or literally anything that could help.

Thank you!

I know getting into the school of Commerce is very competitive. I know students at UVA that didn’t get in and then decided to major in Economics and Public Policy. That might be another option to think about. All you can do is perform well the next two semesters and apply for a transfer for Junior year. No one here can give you a guarantee that you will be admitted but just try to make yourself as strong an applicant as possible.

You may be doing this already, but you certainly should read carefully the requirements for McIntire, and be sure you are taking the equivalent courses that UVa students take in their first two years before entering McIntire.

Mcintire is ridiculously tough to transfer directly into, I think average transfer gpa for mcintire is like a 3.8. Just something to keep in mind.
