Will I get into Wesleyan? how about....

Hi, I'm applying ED to Wesleyan, so that's the main one I want to know about.

But other schools I'd be interested in hearing a "safety/target/reach/no chance in hell" evaluation on:
Bard (EA), American, Barnard, Brown, Emory, Middlebury, Northwestern, Oberlin, Skidmore, Smith. Safeties are UMass Amherst & UC Boulder.

White female from suburban MA competitive public school. Worth noting that I have a very large passion for life and really engaging personality (sorry, I sound like a jerk) which comes across in interviews, essays, recommendations. I also have ADD.

GPA: weighted, 4.6/5.0. No school ranks but I think I'm top 15%. Significant grade improvement from freshman year, but more of a B/B+ average for 1st term of senior year.

SAT I: 2170 combined; M: 650, CR: 770, W:750
SAT II: 720 in Literature, 750 in US History

AP: 5 in US History; taking AP Gov, English language & English lit. in May

Senior schedule: AP Gov, AP English, High-level Environmental, Mid-level Calculus, TV Communications elective, Independent Journalism Study

ECs:
Editor-in-Chief of my school newspaper, 2 years (biggest commitment)
One of head coordinators for school's No Place for Hate committee, 2 years
President of Fashion & Philanthropy Club, member 3 years
Peer tutor at my school’s Writing Center, 2 years
Varsity Ski Team, 4 years
Vice-President of National Honor Society
Gay-Straight Alliance, 4 years
Jazz and hip-hop classes 4 years, 2 hours a week
Save the World Club member 2 years (community service projects)
Volunteer & participant in Relay For Life, 4 years
Newspaper internship with local paper, 1 year

Work
Sales Clerk at Savers thrift store from July 07 to present. 10-15 hours a week.
Pool cook at a country club, summer of 2006. Full time.

Awards:
UMichigan book award for high academic standing, strong ECs & good citizenship
Attended young writers' conference at Middlebury, 2-tiered selection process
National Latin Exam Cum Laude '05; Magna Cum Laude '06
National History Day regional winner, 3rd place at states, sophomore year
History Dept. award for writing, sophmore year

Essays are good, recommendations are good. Will need financial aid, but Wesleyan is need-blind.

So...what do we think?

Getting into Wesleyan is somewhat more difficult for women than for men, unfortunately. IMHO, a guy with the same general stats as your's could put Wesleyan in the low reach column. So much depends on things like your essay and recs. An adcom might even notice something like your prizes in Latin. You just never know. It's certainly worth applying to, especially if it is your first choice.

hey, thanks very much for replying. I'll keep my fingers crossed :-)

We have similar stats and I'm also applying to Wes, Bard, and Oberlin. As far as I know, I think you have a good shot at Bard, considering how much emphasis they place on writing.

Bard and Skidmore sound good bets, and you sound perfect for Barnard.

Good luck at Wes!

Thanks, I think I've got a good chance at Bard & Skidmore, too. And we'll see about Wesleyan!

Yeah, if I don't get into Wes, I'd be more than happy to attend Bard, if I get in there. Good luck to you! Do you have a first choice?

Yeah, Bard is my first choice. :)

...lovely lady bump
check it out!

Essbeekay!

OMG ZACH.
you know what?? we would find each other on a college discussion forum. we would.

hahahaha.

Your best "fit" seems like Skidmore. They also have the nicest dorms. Have you visited? If not you should.
