I think people have said NMSFs get maill. I feel a little cheated.
Every time I’ve taken a test, I’ve always declined to let colleges contact me (a friend told me that she made that mistake, so naturally I’ve tried to stay away from it). Does this mean I won’t be contacted?
You shouldn’t feel cheated if you selected the option to not have colleges contact you. I don’t know what you expected they would do after making that choice.
If you want mail, go to one of your local college fairs and fill out cards for several colleges that you like. It also gives you a chance to talk with people about what their particular college or university has to offer for you personally, and it will count as demonstrated interest.
@suzy100 I know that mail doesn’t guarantee anything. I just want info about more schools I would otherwise know nothing about. I don’t know how colleges would find any of my contact info, though.
@jay1811 I didn’t know that colleges actually gave nice merit awards. People always said they got flooded by bad colleges and I wanted to avoid that.
@midwestdad3 I plan on it. Unfortunately our college fair as of right now doesn’t have that many colleges coming.
Is there a way to change your preference with College Board? Call them and ask if you can’t figure it out from the CB website. And if you are going to retake the SAT or ACT, then definitely allow colleges to contact you if you don’t want to feel cheated.
99% of the colleges you would get mail from won’t interest you anyway. It is nothing but marketing materials. Save a tree. Use the college search function on this website (CC) to find schools that meet YOUR criteria. Then you can go to their website admissions page and sign up to get mailings. Random mailings are more of a distraction than a help as you look for colleges.
