Will I get rescinded from EA schools or rejected right away by regular decision schools?

Hi everyone. I just had a 3 day suspension at school. You can’t really say its because of academic dishonesty, because I brought in a sheet of blank paper into my oral test preparation room and it didn’t help me cheat at all. But since its against the rules (anything other than stationery is unauthorized), my school has to report it. If I say this on my common app, and if my counsellor writes something like I brought in unauthorized material, but I’m a good student and everyone makes mistakes and I should be given a chance, would it have a huge impact on me? Also would EA schools rescind me because of that?

No I don’t think any of that bad stuff will happen. go in and talk to your guidence counselor about it all. I bet you’ll feel better about it afterwards.

somebody help please

what if my counsellor’s more vague about it? like what if he only mentions the word ‘unauthorized’. Would that sound like academic dishonesty?

I need some more answers, please help

anyone? :frowning:

@TonyShammerz - I agree that your should speak with your GC. Don’t be defensive since you did technically violate the rules. Simply explain that the paper was blank and it was not your intention to cheat and that you are concerned about how it will affect your applications. On applications that have not yet been submitted, you can ask the GC to explain that there was a technical violation but no real attempt to cheat. On the CA you can also explain the situation on the last question which asks if there is anything else the school should know. Don’t make yourself out to be a victim in that last question though. Accept responsibility and explained that it was a violation of the letter of the rules, but not the spirit of the rules since the page was blank and that you have learned a valuable lesson. As far as EA schools, find out from the GC if that info is transmitted to the school. If it is, you can ask the GC to write and send something yourself. If the info is not transmitted, and you are sure it is not transmitted, I would leave the matter alone for those schools. Hopefully, you have developed a good rapport with your GC!

Thanks @baxter, if I explain in details and appear as regretful and that I’ve learned a lesson, do you think my chances would be hurt much?

btw early schools will be notified

I don’t think it will hurt your chances much if you are honest and stress that you have learned a valuable lesson. You made a mistake. Adults (which I am) realize that teenagers don’t always make the wisest choices and now is the time to learn from your mistakes. Since the paper was blank, your integrity should not really be at issue. If you are honest and humble I think this is a non-issue. Bring it up, confront it and accept your portion of the blame. I think it will be fine.

Thanks @baxter, anybody else? sorry I just want as many opinions as I could get. I’d appreciate any help

Please help!!! I can’t even sleep these days…

A little help? Just put your opinion pleaseeeee

I have absolutely no experience here, but you seem to really need some sort of an answer.

I suggest that, first thing Monday morning, you speak to your guidance counselor/ College Admissions office. Someone there will have a far better idea than I about how to proceed.

Good luck!

As with many things in life, plan for the worst and hope for the best. It would be better if you could get someone at your high school to write a letter rather than you (principal, teacher, etc.)

It is hard to say how a school will react. If they get the details, they may let it slide. Rather than dishonesty, it may strike them as irresponsible as you knew the rules going in. It could also depend upon your credentials and how they feel about them versus other candidates.

Again, make contingency plans to get in elsewhere and get emotionally prepared for the potential bad news. It may be some time before you hear anything.

I know my school does this where you can get your record expunged during second semester of your senior year. I would talk to your counselor and see if your school has any policy for removing it from your record. It’s worth a shot and if you got in EA than you won’t have to worry at reporting it to colleges at all.

HELP?!?!?! anyone else?

@bjkmom gave the definitive answer; none of here knows, so ask your GC. FWIW, I doubt you’d be rescinded.
