I’ve been admitted as a freshman and recently submitted my SIR to Davis. As of right now, I have a D- in my current math class, IB Math 2, and am really worried that it will affect my admission. I took on a pretty big workload in terms of classes this semester and my math grade is taking the hit. To put it in context, my current GPA is around 4.35 and all 5 of my classes are IB classes. I’m still actively involved in my school extra-curriculars and am currently looking for a job. I really love Davis and am doing as much as I can to fix this problem with my math grade, however I don’t know if I will be able to pull it up to a C within the next month or so with all of the other schoolwork I have. Is there anything I can do if I really do end the semester with a D- in math so that my acceptance will not be affected?
With your UC Davis acceptance, there should a provisional admission contract the spells out what you need to do to keep your acceptance. In the past this has been completing all coursework submitted on your application and maintaining a 3.0 Weighted GPA with no D’s or F’s.
Here is what the UCD website states:
Reporting Changes to Your Academic Record
You are expected to complete all courses listed on your application with strong grades, as outlined in the conditions of admission that every student receives on their MyAdmissions page. However, we understand that there are many situations that can impact your ability to meet these expectations, and we are willing to work with you. Use MyAdmissions to notify us immediately of any changes to your schedule or any classes not passed (a grade less than C) and we will do our best to work with you.
D or F Grades
You are required to notify us through MyAdmissions of any of the following circumstances:
Freshmen: You received any D or F grades in “a-g” coursework during your senior year, or you received or expect to receive any D or F grades in “a-g” coursework.
Along with the notification, we require a written explanation and your plans for making up your non-passing grade.
We encourage you to repeat the course or take a comparable course to clear the deficiency. Please keep in mind that repeating or otherwise making up a non-passing grade does not guarantee admission to UC Davis. Seek advice from your high school or college counselor before you take any action to correct these grades.

I suggest you contact UCD admissions and ask them what you can do now to keep your acceptance. Do not wait until your final transcripts are required and you may have no options left. They will evaluate your situation on a case by case basis, but be proactive.
UPDATE: I contacted UC Davis’ admissions office and they said getting a D- will most likely not affect my admission, however, I might need to take a CC course over the summer to make it up. Thank you for the information!
