Will I get Rescinded??

These are my current classes and projected grades
AP Government B (A is certainly possible but B is more likely, and I wanted a conservative estimate)
AP Java B+/A- (same as above)
AP Biology A
Journalism 3-8 A
Ceramics 1-2 A (I'm not taking this class to slack off. I loaded up on AP's the first three years and this is to fulfill and art requirement to graduate)
AP English C

First semester I got all A's with a B in English.

This would look to be a 3.4ish GPA. My only concern is my potential C in English. I had an A in the class during first semester until my teacher gave me a 50/100 in class participation. After the end of the semester he has given me C's in all homework that I complete. One assignment was to annotate a packet, and I got a C when my friend did less work (he just copied sentences verbatim) and got a B+. Today I had to make up and essay, and my teacher confronted me about some truants I had earlier. He said since he didn't take them account into my first semester grades (He gave me an F in participation!), he's going to really punish me second semester. So if I were to get a C in this class, which appears to be likely given this BS (imo), would I lose an acceptance?

The other schools I applied to are UCLA, UC Berkeley, UCSD, Northwestern, Columbia, Cornell, and Brown. Would I lose acceptances at these schools with a C and maybe a few other B's?

For 2nd semester? From what I’ve read in countless other threads of this type, absolutely not.

You will be fine I bet. Not to mention they will not see your grades again until the end of the year and by that time, they will not do anything about it.

Mendoza line for senior slide usually is B. (I am quoting my college counselor here) Getting a C will likely prove to be troublesome for you. Although it’s rather unlikely that they will rescind your admission, there certainly is a possibility. You have to avoid getting a C – at best you will begin your first semester at college under academic probation. I would suggest talking to your teacher and college counselor about this matter.

Fortunately, that is not true. You’re fine. You will not be rescinded, and you will not begin college under academic probation.

I should clarify (and justify) my earlier comment. You will only be rescinded if and only if:

1) You have committed a serious crime (like crashing your car into your principal’s house)
2) You start getting straight C’s or D’s or F’s (which you’re not) - I would try to get that C up though

3) In case you are thinking of visiting the school during overnight’s stay, you should not go to any parties. I have heard rumors (and I do not know how trustworthy these rumors are) of students getting drunk and sent to the ER. Their acceptance is revoked. Again, I do not know the validity of these rumors, but just to be on the safe side. It will most likely not happen to you anyway.

All in all, you are fine! Relax! Enjoy the rest of your senior year!

The top tier schools might care about a C. I doubt it would warrant being rescinded but they wouldn’t be happy. Someone got a warning letter from Stanford this past year for getting one B and one B+ as well as a few A-s. I’d guess that schools like Brown and Columbia are similar. In fairness though, this was a straight A student previously. Still, I would avoid Cs.

I have known people to get multiple C’s & D’s and heard nothing troublesome. You are fine. Enjoy your senior year (but do try to learn as much as you can!).

@Lagging:
I would appreciate a source for this anecdotal “someone” who got a warning. I’m not saying that you’re lying; it’s just that sometimes people find a bit of “he said/she said” news so interesting that they feel inclined to share it even if they’re not sure that it’s true. Under what circumstances would Stanford ever send a warning letter to someone for getting a few B’s? Please, for the benefit of everyone that you just freaked out by saying top schools will send warning letters if you get anything lower than an A, tell us where you got your information from.

Lol didn’t mean to freak anyone out, it freaked me out when I heard. Got it directly from a concerned Stanford admitted student in the Stanford facebook group. He said he received a letter of warning for one B, one B+ and a few A-s. He was wondering what he could/should do to not get a letter about being rescinded.

He’d never had anything below an A though, so probably those who have gotten marks below As don’t have to worry as much about getting a warning for some Bs.

Hahaha, getting rescinded for one C. XD
I got between three and five C’s my senior year (can’t remember exactly what the number was) and did not get rescinded.

And the third point Divine Comedy makes is true. The admissions counselors told me themselves that this happened. In fact, I believe it was seven students for my year who got rescinded because of getting too drunk at parties.

So how’d it go???
