Hi, I’m currently a senior in high school in their last couple of weeks of school. I was accepted to an Ivy League institution and plan to attend there during the fall. However, my school has denied me a PE waiver for a sport as I missed too many practices due to a lung infection. Now, I will not be able to walk at graduation. However, I will be able to graduate (late) if I complete a PE course at a community college and send my proof of graduation in early August. Do you think I will be rescinded from my college because I did not graduate on time? Keep in mind this is a PE waiver I failed to fulfill, which is different from failing a class and not being able to graduate.
No. They won’t care when you graduated, as long as you have the diploma before you matriculate.
Boo hiss to your school, OP. You were ill,and they won’t let you walk? Not cool. Best of luck to you, and listen to skieurope, it will be fine. You can call the school to ask if you have doubts.
You might want to speak to your college. I bet they won’t even care if you take the PE class or not. You’d be surprised that many colleges don’t require a HS diploma – simply its equivalency – which I’m sure you’ve demonstrated.
That’s a stupid thing for your HS to enforce, to be frank.
One last thing: if your college says you don’t need it, go to the school and say: You can award me a diploma or not. I don’t care. If you don’t, your stats of non-graduates simply goes up. Otherwise, waive this requirement
While this made me laugh, on the flip side, sometimes you just need to pick your fights. I’m not sure this fight is worth the effort.
I would be shocked if a school rescinded you for this.
I also would be surprised if you were rescinded for this. However, I would send a letter of explanation from your guidance counselor with the transcript (if he/she is willing). I would probably also email your admission rep. with (if possible) a back up letter from your doctor. Be clear about the reason for you will not graduate on time, describe the remediation, and make it clear that you will graduate before college starts. I would not have the school send a transcript noting that you did not graduate without an explanation.
I’m not sure how the school won’t let you walk assuming you had legal absences from the sport. If you did not clear in in advance, that was a mistake on your part and fortunately it can be remediated in time for college. Either way not allowing you to walk seems mean spirited.
