Will I get rescinded?

Hi,
I got accepted to Indiana University Bloomington about a month ago,
and seniority hit me very hard after the acceptance.
The first semester of senior isn’t over yer, but there will be about 3 Cs and one of them has probability of changing into a D.
I really regret that I payed less attention to my academic status,
and I’m really worried if I will be rescinded from IU.
My GPA when I got into IU was very low.
I barely got above 3.00 weighted GPA, and I frequently had Cs in math classes and sometimes in other classes since my freshman year, so this isn’t very different from other three years.
I got a pretty good ACT score though, which might be the reason I got accepted.
Anyway, so even though I will get some Cs and possibly a D this semester, since they are all APs, I think weighted GPA will be actually higher than GPA I had when I got accepted. Also the one I might get a D is AP Calc, which is the class I don’t really have to take because I have already taken 3 years of math.
Still, a D sounds really critical, and I’m really worried.
Fortunately, Indiana University doesn’t care about Mid-Year reports but take Final reports on May next year.
So if I get like a C or B for AP Calc in 2nd semester of senior year, which I might get a D for 1st semester,
Will I be safe from getting rescinded?
I’m trying my best right now, so I hope getting a D won’t happen, but just in case.

I have never gotten a D in my life though.

Check with the college. Most schools don’t allow Ds. It will say somewhere on their website, but otherwise call the ad office and just ask. You need to step it up. Work as hard as you possibly can to raise your grade.

Are you sure you are ready for college? Maybe you should ask to defer for a year and give yourself time to mature. Or start at CC to ease yourself into college life a bit more slowly. Deferring btw still requires you to maintain your grades.

“Are you sure you are ready for college?”

This is a legitimate question. Do you expect to magically NOT be a C student at IU? My wife attended there and IU serves a wide community, giving a chance to people who need one. However, many also don’t make the most of the opportunity and are no longer attending after the first semester or two. I think you need to have a realistic assessment of whether or not you and your family should be investing the $ into IU (and its many temptations) given your current academic (and perhaps maturity) preparedness. Good luck to you.

Nobody can tell you more than: see if a mid-year report will be sent; check with the college to see their policy; see what grades your HS includes on its final transcript (some only have year-end grades).

In any event you need to pull it together and bring your grades up.

Your admission offer should state the conditions you need to fulfill.

^^^^Many admission officers are very vague about this, perhaps purposefully.

Rule of thumb for most schools. No D’s or F’s Senior year.

Like most colleges IU expects you to keep working in HS.

A D may cause them to reconsider, which means you’ll spend a very uncomfortable summer waiting for them to review your HS transcripts and make a decision.

Seems like you want to do all of the following:

  • No D or F grades in last year/semester.
  • No changes to previously reported in-progress courses.
  • GPA in last year/semester at least as high as that known to the college during admissions readings.

I’m curious as to why you’re bumping this thread. You’ve gotten a bevy of advice. Are you disagreeing? Are you waiting for someone to tell you that tomorrow will be rainbows and unicorns? The ball is in your court – you’re the one who needs to extricate yourself out of your path which may lead you to sitting at home next September.

If it wasn’t clear before, let me state it again: you may well be rescinded. We’re not 100% sure so you should call IU.

MODERATOR’S NOTE:
Closing thread. There’s nothing left to say. The below quote from @T26E4 sums up what you need to do:
