I got an F in AP Calc. for the last quarter (it's only two quarters). But I still completed my a-g requirements for math and am still rank 21 out of 536. I will be an honor grad and still have over a 3.0 weighted this senior year. Do you know of any case where a person failed a non-required class and still got into UCSD? I really want to go there, but I am scared because I am at risk of getting revoked! Please share any personal stories. I already e-mailed them and notified them about my failing grade and they still haven't got back to me. Do you still think there's hope for me? Thanks. : ]

You could retake it at a community college over the summer and try to pull a C. It may be non-required but most applicants probably do have it, at least at the non-AP level. A D in AP might have been alright because of the weighted extra point but an F may be a bigger problem, especially because the 3.0 weighted GPA is kind of low for SD. If that still keeps you so high in the class rank, you must have a tough school. Also, it might matter what your major is. When they call you back, see if it helps to offer to retake it.

I had a friend who called the Admissions office because she got a D in AP Physics and they told her they would rescind her. She also called UC Davis and UCSB and they said they wouldn’t consider it and still accept her anyways. It really depends on the school, but I think UCSD is one of the schools that is more stringent on the requirements. Call the admissions office to confirm this.

agenelay: I thought you were headed for UCB COC? Have you decided on UCSD? If so, why? Berkeley is outstanding at chemistry.

**I studied 9th& 10th grade in another country so my foreign transcript is kinda different. When I came here, my American high school converted all my courses/ grades into American grading system. So then on my UC appl, instead of putting “Mathematics”, I put “PreCal”, and instead of putting point, I put “P” as it stated on my CURRENT transcript to minimize the confusion.

And today I read the contract, it said that my transcript and what I put on UC appl must match. Of course my UC appl doesnt match with my foreign transcript, but it totally matches with my Current transcript. (since my current High school translated/ converted everything. )

Now I’m very worried and confused… Would I be rescinded just because of that? I swear to god I put all my grades/ courses as stated on my CURRENT American HS transcript and I didn’t mean anything… Now I’m very scared… **

Call the admissions office asap; they’re usually lenient with that kind of stuff. At the very least send them a letter along with your transcript explaining the situation.

I was unsure about something like this too. I got a D in an A-G course in Sophomore year and I didn’t even realize I needed to take something to make up for the requirement, so I got enrolled at a Community College to take care of it, but I wasn’t sure if I should put it on my app or not. So on my app I didn’t include it, but then I contacted the UCAP people and told them to make sure and they said they would contact the campuses. I’m still kind of worried that they never got the memo though and they might get my transcript and rescind me. If they try that though I still have my e-mail from the UCAP and I can probably explain it to them

The admissions people are not in the business of trying to find reasons to rescind. They just want to be sure you can succeed at their school. If you have a good reason for the problem and make a good faith effort to correct it, they will work with you, even if it means a quarter on academic probation.

My friend got a D in calculus and got rescinded from UCSD, but he wrote a letter to them telling that he was taking it at a community college over the summer, and he managed to pull a C, so they let him back in.

I probably can’t because I am most definitely going to get rescinded because of my F! I’m sure they are really strict on their rules plus my GPA first term was a 2.96 unweighted and they require a 3.0 unweighted. If it was weighted it would be better but I still have that F. And as to why my rank is so high is because that’s my only F and I used to be rank 10 and btw my school is definitely not hard it’s actually the opposite. lol. there are only certain ppl who care about the grades they earn. jaja. but yeah i also think i could do better at ucsd than cal im just hoping they can work with me so i can still attend… btw thanks for all the answers!

i think you can go to CC to make up that class, try to get at least a C and then write a letter to the Dean of UCSD Admission explain ur situation.

err…the 2.96 unweighted is what will screw you over, i think.

i had a friend who received a D her last semester, she did not get rescinded --but her quarter GPA was still 3.0+.

i think it’s sometimes a case by case thing, so…definitely call them and see if there’s anything you can do , you might be able to appeal if anything.

keep above a 3.0… and don’t get a D… It really isn’t that hard guys lol.

most likely get rescinded. notify them about it, and what course of action you will be taking to fix it.

But the UW GPA will or might finalize that you will be rescinded.

A F in AP cal, thats just insane. cal isn’t that hard :o.

then again UCs have strict guidelines, anything below a C will automatically get u rescinded for not followiing their rules, unless they are notified that you are fixing it.

As long as I remain a 3.5 GPA this last spring semester then I’m still in! Yay me! lol and it’s strongly recommended that I retake Calc. at a local community college so that’s what I’m gonna do! but i’m super excited and it looks like I’m heading to Cal! See you guys there! : ]]

I dropped AP Statistics, Fall and Spring semester. I’m really worried I might get rescinded. On my application I put AP Stats as in progress and planning… so I dunno. I sent them a letter, I also called the admissions office to confirm that they received it and I’m still admitted, but I’m still worried…

It shouldn’t be a problem as long as your GPA is still good and you already have enough math levels completed.

same here. I put Eng1B as planned and the class was fulled so I couldnt add. im worried too.

um… a D for an AP course isn’t weight fyi.
you better have a good reason… if u get a D though.

just ace ur finals and the rest of the tests and hw. and u’ll be fine i suppose.
F+A= C maybe?
unless F = 0%
