I recently just got accepted into IU and I am very excited! Freshman year I got a D in Algebra and a D in Earth Science. In my college essay, I wrote about how math is very challenging for me and how I am trying to overcome it. Sophomore and junior year I got C’s in my math classes. Senior year math however, has been very hard for me, I got a D in stats and am struggling to get above a D in Math Analysis, But All my other classes are A’s and B’s and I am in 2 honors classes and take 4 history classes so I have always had a solid GPA. With my previous math grades and the knowledge they have about my issues with math how much will they care? Will they take back my admission?
What are the conditions on your provisional admit? Most schools consider D’s and F’s as a reason for rescinding. I would contact admissions ASAP to clarify your admission status.
Definitely get out in front of the issue and contact admissions. Tell them that you’re aware of the problem and are doing everything you can to succeed in the class. If you do have a track record of struggling in mathematics, it will help since they say that they’re looking for grades comparable to those before you were accepted. Ds can lead to being rescinded but if you’re direct and actively confront the issue you’ll have a much better chance of maintaining your acceptance.
