Im currently a freshmen at a rigorous boarding school and my grades are not what I need them to be to get into Midd. I now have a 3.0 and my school says I need about a 3.3-3.5 to go to Middlebury, and Im wondering if it would be better to get better grades in a public HS rather than a boarding school. Does Midd favor lesser grades at a tough boarding school or better grades at an easier public school?

Although gpa is not the sole factor into gaining admission, it is the most important. Schools will consider whether you attended a rigorous school, but they’re more interested in how rigorous the classes you took were. I don’t know enough about your situation to give you a clear answer, but a 3.5 is still a relatively low gpa for middlebury’s standards.

Your name is a giveaway, but are you trying to get recruited?

My advice would be to stay in your boarding school because your freshmen grades will still show up on your final transcript. Raise that gpa and you’ll have a good shot.
