Will I have a decent shot at Boston College?

Hi everyone,

I visited Boston College a few weeks ago and I love the campus. However, I do not know if I have a shot at getting accepted. Please no rude comments :)

My GPA is a 101.64 weighted (96 unweighted, all A's)
However, my SAT is a 1930 ( 530 Reading, 700 Math, 700 Writing)
I have been studying my butt off for the Critical Reading section throughout the summer and I have been getting high 600s to low 700s on practices. Hopefully I'll be able to pull off a 700 on CR when I take it in October.

My EC's are fairly decent. A lot of my ECs revolve around the violin (typical i know), but I have a lot of other community service, job experiences, etc.

I have taken all honors/AP classes as well through freshman to junior year. I am taking all APs senior year too.

And I'm Asian (sigh) if this helps with the question.

I guess my question is if I improve my critical reading score, would I have a decent shot at getting into Boston College?
Also, if anyone wants to pour in some CR advice (mainly with passage reading, I'm good with the vocab), that would be very helpful!

Thanks everyone :)

Someone reply

lol I’ll reply. So the college process is REALLY weird and absolutely UNPREDICTABLE. I actually applied this year (class 2018) and so I would know. lol
I did get into Boston college as well
From your stats, I’d say you have a shot. It’s not a GREAT shot, but still a decent chance! Have in mind that there are SO many qualified students at BC. Their SAT scores usually ranges from a 2000+. I assume you have a couple of months left until the app deadline, so try to study for the SAT 1-2 more times. Boost that score up. If you can’t, then perfect your college essays and supplement essays for BC. They will most definitely look at that.
I know that everyone who got in to BC at my school had a 2200+ on their SAT, a 3.8+ GPA and quite stellar extracurriculars. After I saw who I was competing with, I had no hope. Not even kidding, bro.
My SAT score was not up to par with them, so I decided to work on my essays and extracurricular. This just proves how unpredictable the process is! So just try your best really

Best of luck man.

How did you score on the AP tests for the AP classes you completed already? They use the AP test score to validate the difficulty of the AP course at your school and how you actually did. Right, with AP the teacher can be hard or less hard and they have fair amount of flexibility with implementing the curriculum. So the test scores matter. BC requires TWO SAT II subject tests. Which did you do and how did you do on those?

I think you have a decent chance of getting into BC! I’m applying there as well! Again, make sure your essays are great and speak to a part of you that isn’t in the black and white of the application. Your classes show rigor, which is something very important in applications. Good luck to you!!

Chance me back?

BC no longer requires SAT II tests.
