First, will you be applying via the TAP program?
Second, from a GPA point of view your average is pretty much right on par with this years average gpa for admitted students. The average gpa is a 3.89. From what I looked up, you seem to have completed all the prereq courses for your major–other than linguistics–with all A’s which is great.

I’d say that if you are TAP certified you’ll be locked in for UCLA. If not, then you simply have a “good shot” for UCLA–it’s a competitive major and at the point where the average admitted gpa is basically a 3.9 no one can really predict all that well. What do your soft factors look like?

As for Cal, I’d say you have a great shot and can pretty much bank on getting in.

Remember: high gpa, completion of prereqs, and IGETC. Finish with a strong Fall performance and you won’t have much to worry about.

thedude44-- is right! TAP excludes communication studies majors :/

Further, I agree that it appears that you will have a decent chance of getting accepted at CAL if you keep up the good work.
As for UCLA, you need to keep your GPA high, stay on top on extracurriculars (or at least something that shows your experience/dedication into the field as well as positively sets you apart from hundreds of applicants), write a strong personal statement, do well in the prereqs, and pray

I didn’t apply for mass communications at CAL, but I did apply for sociology and got in. Also, I applied for communication studies at UCLA and got accepted.

piamonte, what should I do to be accepted into Communications at UCLA?
I am a California CC student and have a 4.0 GPA. I have many e.c’s:
tranfer club member
asb member
phi theta kappa- service officer
part-time job
honors enrichment program
internship with a production company
tennis

I will have all my prerequisites by the end of the fall semester, except statistics. I thought that would be the wise choice because I did not want to risk getting a B and having it bring down my GPA. What do you think I should do?
thanks!

user_anton, the avg gpa for comm last year was 3.95 so your chances aren’t looking too good unless you have something to set yourself from the 1000 other applicants.

user-anton, I had almost the same grades and prereqs done as you only less W’s and I didn’t get into either UCLA or Cal. I’m not trying to discourage you but you need to find a solid back up because you never know.

For Comm for UCLA,
you really need a 3.9 minimum. That was the 2008-2009 Profile of Admitted Comm Majors
It’s really competitive. Berk though is 3.8 and above
