I'm planning to double major so I'll still have an engineering degree.

I'm somewhat interested in taking philosophy, hopefully enhancing my ability to read complex material, writing skills, as well as logic/reason skills. This is what's I've been learning in my current philosophy class and I'm not sure if university level will be any different.

I'd also like to note that I'm not a very good writer. I also don't read on my own at all (with the exception of English class).

If your question was "will I learn anything useful in Philosophy that I can apply to my art/design degree", the answer is overwhelmingly yes. Ethics, morals, language and culture are, for all practical purposes, the foundation of many of the theories of applied arts.

For example, we require Introduction to Philosophy for our undergraduate students in our Industrial Design curriculum.

My daughter is in the honors program at SVA and they have a required 4 semester course of study in philosophy. My daughter feels that her philosophy studies have been very important in terms of giving her perspective and understanding of art as an expression the human condition.

Jkolko, When you note "we require Introduction to Philosophy for our undergraduate students in our Industrial Design curriculum Question: Are you teaching at SCAD or some other school? Is another school, where?//

You shouldn't sound so interested in a non-NASAD accredited program, Taxguy. I believe jkolko said he was a SCAD prof on a few occasions in a thread on CMU.
