OK i took the march sat
math: 710
reading: 790
writing: 740 (essay 9, MC 74)

THEN THE MAY SAT:
math:710
reading: 800
writing: 800 (essay 11, MC 80)

I mean I'm super happy and i know there are no schools that would turn me down with that score.
but i also know that if i study my butt off, i could bring my math up to at least a 750, maybe more. (i have not studied for math) and i know that if I get close to a 2400, i could feel really nice and confident about getting myself into one of these schools.
Stanford (my love) does not accept "score choice" so I am scared to take it again and look like a wierdo who wasn't happy with a perfectly good score. like a repeated test taker loonie.
or i could retake the Sat after i apply EA to stanf and then send in those new scores to other schools to which i apply regular decision.

“I know there are no schools that would turn me down with that score”!!!
Are you bloody serious? You think just cause you got a good SAT score you are in?! My friend got a 2300 and he didn’t get into his top choice which was MIT!!! SAT scores are definitely not the top things college admission officers consider. trust me.

ya, but i feel like if i retake it, i could do really well and that would really secure my chances at stanford. my grades are definetely up to par but not stellar. so is it worth looking a bit pathetic in order to raise it? or will i look too wierd?

the same friend I was talking about got into stanford with a 2300. he also had 800’s on his sat II’s. Again: don’t worry, i think in terms of SAT testing, your place is secured.

Where do you plan on applying? Although a 2310 is great at any school, a 710 in math would probably hurt you at Caltech/MIT. I retook a 2310 because I’m interested in those schools and I got a 720 in math my first time, but unless you’re planning on going to one of those schools you should be fine.

If it’s just Stanford, don’t worry. If you are going to Caltech, you should give it again. There was a year where all the admitted students got 800 in the math section of their SATs so that’s how crazy it is.

I know what it’s like to get so close, I got a 2360 this time from my 2120 in Jan, but I feel itchy like I could get that perfect score. But I won’t retake. So that’s about it, if you are applying to Caltech, then resit cause that 710 is going to hurt.

Haha, we have almost the exact same scores. I had 800 in Writing and Reading too, but a 700 instead of a 710 in Math. I think a lot about retaking for math because I think I could do up to 750 if I studied it (I studied PSAT math and brought it from 67 to 74). I don’t think you’re crazy. If you want to retake it, then do so, but there’s basically no school that would reject you for 710 instead of 750.

Instead of taking the risk and possibly getting lower scores, why don’t you take a subject test? Math II probably since you want to go to Stanford. It has a pretty lenient curve and a 750+ on that will easily offset your Math 710.

Well for sat 2’s i am taking lit math 2c and chem (i took ap chem). I am a bit worried about math 2c as well but i have started studying for it. I’m definetely not applying to any mit type place so there isnt as much pressure on my math. My main worry is that when they see 3 sat tries on my app, it woon’t reflect well. Is it worth the chance of improving (which i hope to do. And intend to.) And also showing th three times?
