Will I look pretentious if I get a recom. letter from an ivy league professor?

I won’t name the ivy league, so lets say the ivy league college’s name is IvyLeague1. I was working with a professor from IvyLeague1 for a few months. He doesn’t know me very well but he does know what I do and what I am passionate about. He wrote a glowing recom. letter for me, almost to the point of saying that I may very well be the next Steve Jobs.

If I send this recom. letter from the IvyLeague1 professor to the SAME ivy league college - IvyLeague1, will the adcoms think I’m desparate to get in / trying to trick the system/ pretentious … or will they think I actually have value and deserve to be admitted?

Also, should I send this recom. letter from IvyLeague1 professor to other Ivies such as IvyLeague2 and IvyLeague3? What about small LACs? Should I send them this letter?

Of course, I AM sending the two separate required letters from school teachers. The professor’s letter is included in “Others”.

you’re over thinking this. Unless prof 1 is lying, it’s fine to submit it anywhere.

@T26E4‌ I’ve heard about someone with killer stats who got letter of recom. from professors at MIT and Princeton. He applied to HYPSM. He was accepted everywhere EXCEPT MIT and Princeton.

I repeat: you’re over thinking this

I think most colleges and universities want to know that the applicants they are admitting have the ability and discipline to do excellent work, and the letters of rec give them additional support on this beyond the grades and scores.

The Ivies are a little different. They KNOW most applicants can do the work. So they really are looking for the next Steve Jobs. By all means, submit your letter.

@thezealot. Having read this thread and your earlier threads I understand you are an international applying. I believe you were seriously considering/planning to apply to Stanford REA (since it was your dream school) in your earlier threads…were you rejected? If that is correct…getting a rejection from Stanford is not uncommon and should be expected for all who apply (being the most exclusive and difficult school to get into)…even with the best credentials (domestic or international). Getting a rejection or deferral from Stanford in no way should deter/sway you from applying to other similar schools and getting a different (positive) result. So…go ahead and submit the professors recommendation. It won’t hurt.

…don’t be gun shy because your early school decision did not work out…

I agree youre overthinking this. My friend internednat Yale for research over several summers. She got a rec from the prof and got into her top choice… yale. Why the heck would it look pretentious? It’s jhst another rec talking about your abilities and character

aren’t all the ivy league deadlines passed?

^ I believe UPenn extended their deadline to the 5th.
